ā€œWe are all still in the throes of suffering the great shock of Father Evan Harkinsā€™ recent and unexpected passing. It is especially true that those of us who knew Father well simply cannot get our heads around this tragedy. It came out of nowhere, and happened to one of the finest, holiest, most gentle and humble priests we know. Everything seemed perfectly normal in Fatherā€™s life. He offered Masses at the parish and heard confessions that weekend. We are left scratching our heads; how on earth could this have happened, but especially to someone like Father Harkins? It just doesnā€™t add up. It simply doesnā€™t make sense.ā€ ā€¦ From link above

Unfortunately, bad reactions to ā€œhead medsā€ can happen, and it is important for people to stay in close touch with their doctors when they go on new meds.

I do think, however, that it is time to give this priest, his family, and his parishioners some privacy.
This sort of ongoing coverage and gossipy stuff in blogs is one big reason why many priestly suicides are kept on the downlow by parishes and dioceses.
 
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
 
God bless this woman of light, an Abbes who knew father and has brought light to the situation, comfort to his family, friends and parishioners. The truth sets people free. May our lady bless this nun and all who knew Father in her community. May her blog help others who have no clue how certain meds can affect ones mind and choices.

I couldnā€™t agree more. Although, it seems like there is more to Fr.ā€™s story than is in the blog.
 
As someone only a little bit familiar with him, Fr. Evan was one of the most humble and gentle men around. Incredibly sweet and understanding with a great passion for teaching the faith. Cherish and pray for our priests.
