I have listened to myriad Catholic priests and apologists during my faith walk.

I love Fr. John Corapi for his James Earl Jones-esque delivery and unwavering theme of unity and bringing closer together what we live and what we profess. Father’s talks are always uplifting and inspiring.

I love John Martignoni for his grasp on sacred scripture and his ability to defend the Church, its teaching authority, and our sacraments without having to rely on tradition or the Church Fathers. He’s perhaps the most pragmatic apologist of our day in terms of learning the nuts and bolts of what one needs to defend the faith against attacks of bible-only fundamentalists.

But this thread is about a new favorite of mine, Fr. Larry Richards from Erie, PA. He is now probably my favorite Catholic “evangelist” (I cringe to use that word, lol).

If you haven’t heard of him, please browse around his website and consider registering so you can download his free talk, “The Truth.” My wife and I just ordered a number of his CDs as we both find him to be a loving, dynamic, humorous, insightful man of God.

Sincerely His,

P.S. Fr. Larry is a regular on Relevant Radio too.

He’s my new favorite too! I’ve heard him speak at a Catholic homeschool conference and I have once of his CDs-he’s fantastic.

Indeed, Father Larry is AWESOME!

Go to his website and order yourself a VHS copy (its the only format it currently comes in) of one of his talks entitled ‘What more could He do for you?’.

Talk about AWESOME! Wow!

I think Fr. Larry is great.

You can get two of his talks free from “The Mary Foundation”, sorry don’t have there web address.

One is Confession, the other is The Mass Explained.

I have some of his cds but will check out the VHS copy…I like Fr Richards:thumbsup:

I have to admit, I wasn’t too keen when I first heard him. But when I started really listening, I really enjoyed his talks. My favorite is The Mass Explained. I can listen to it over and over and not get tired. I love it when I hear him on Relevant Radio at nights. The way he teaches is great! 👍

Fr. Larry is really good. He has a thick Yankee accent, especially on “Confession”, but he is worth listening to. I have “The Truth”, “Confession” and “The Mass Explained” and I love them all.

The only trouble I have with him is his strict belief in a fixed ten percent tithe, which he spells out in “The Truth”, but he uses the example of someone who pulls in 100k per annum, and I would agree with him in that income bracket. However, I would not agree that this ten percent applies equally to the poor folks.

Great point! I started another thread to discuss this, as I feared the tangent would take away from discussion of Father Larry!

I like him too. I love his tapes on salvation. I’ve only found one thing that made me cringe, though. I have a video of his where he talks about the Passion and I cringed at one part because he gives a very Protestant explanation of Jesus’ words on the cross. If my memory serves me right, he talks about God turning his back on Jesus (I think because Jesus became ‘sin’) when Jesus says “my God, my God, why have you foresaken me?”, instead of explaining this in the way most Catholic scholars I’ve read explain it, by saying Jesus was probably quoting from Psalm 22 - which talks about what Jesus went through but also his final victory, and the fact that God couldn’t turn his back on Jesus because Jesus is God.
