Fr. Scheier's NDE, Judgement, and Hell

Father Steven Scheier, a young Catholic priest, had a near death experience. During his particular judgement, Jesus judged him unworthy of the Kingdom of God. Just as Jesus was about to send him into Hell, Our Lady interceded on Fr. Scheier’s behalf. She convinced Jesus to send Fr. Scheier back to Earth to see if he would bear fruit. Jesus, unable to refuse His mother’s requests, agreed, and sent Fr. Scheier back to Earth to continue his ministry.

Father promptly turned his life around. In my opinion, Father Scheier has certainly bore much worthy fruit. God bless him.

I found the video interview of Fr. Scheier to be quite sobering. It made me re-evaluate everything in my life. I now try to do good works for God, rather than for myself. It’s a must see video.

Thanks much for posting that video site. What most folks forget (including myself) is that God knows every thought. IF we wish ill of folks, even if we do not act out our wishes we are guilty of whatever violence we wish upon them. Same goes for lust etc. That is a tough standard to live up to.

It used to be that penances were much tougher during the early Church, now they are short prayer or almost nothing. Days, weeks or months of fasting and prayers used to be common penances. ST Teresa says Heaven used to be the rule while Purgatory was the exception, now Purgatory is the rule and Heaven is the exception.

Even though the saints are always telling us Purgatory will be much worse than anything we can imagine, most folks are happy to settle for Purgatory. We need to be thinking the other way around, do your suffering now, when it is infinitely more bearable. Our goal should be Heaven first, not Purgatory.

You would think a priest would get teh benefit of a doubt. It didn’t sound like the priest did anything evil, he just did not live up to Christ’s standard for His priests. Plus his confessions did not include a determination to change his life, so it was not true repentance. It’s an easy trap to fall into, for all of us.

There is a video on You Tube of a handsome man who suffered an accident during which he died. If I remember this story correctly, he was not Catholic, not of any religion. He died and was shown hell. He recovered. Half his face is disfigured but he doesn’t seem to mind. He now believes in God and in Jesus. One of the things left him was the knowledge of hell which he says is so horrid he wouldn’t wish it on anyone. He no longer uses the term 'go to hell" and cringes when he hears it because the person saying it would never say that if he knew what he knew about hell.

I think the proof of NDE is in how the person changes his life.

OK this really frightens me. If a priest is judged not worthy and condemned to hell, what chance does a sinner like me have? I mean, I try to be “good” but I know I am so weak and sinful. In all seriousness this man is a priest, someone who dedicated his life to the Lord’s service and if his judgement was hell, what on earth can I possibly hope to do? I’m literally flabbergasted!

I realize there is the sacrament confession and the Lord’s Divine Mercy which He says is infinite and His greatest attribute but…I’m sorry this priest’s story and the fact that he was judged worthy of hell just blows my mind and leaves me somewhat hopeless and altogether fearful.

Well, Sonny Jim, it may not be easy to get to Heaven but it most certainly is possible. The best we can do is give belief to all that the Church teaches, have a good and strong prayer life, attend Mass as often as possible but especially on Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation, go to Confession regularly and especially when we commit a mortal sin, and follow Jesus. Remember, God knows everything about us. He knows all of the trouble we have in this life and of course He takes that into account when He judges us at both the Particular Judgment and the Final Judgment. Of course, this is no excuse for us to be lazy or neglectful of doing our best. I believe that a devotion to Mary through the Rosary is a great help for getting to Heaven. There are also numerous other devotions which we can take advantage of to give us the graces we need to stay out of sin and to stay in the state of grace. In fact, each and every one of us has the potential to become a canonized saint after we die if we just make use of the graces that are freely and abundantly available to us. God is merciful. He is the most merciful of all. He is the Father of Mercy. He is Mercy Himself! He didn’t die on that cruel cross so He could stand up there and whack us over the head with every thing we do wrong. No, He died on that cross to appease the Father so that we might have forgiveness of our sins. And even more than that, He gave us our Mother, Mary. He also gave us the many saints and devotions of the Church. Make use of them. Do so and you stand a much better chance of staying out of Hell.

Don’t forget that a Priest, despite his training and ordination, is just a man and to whom much has been given, much will be expected.

I would focus as much [or more] on the positive side of this vision’s message as you are the negative.

Yes the path to hell is wide and easy to follow, but we have a Judge who is also our Savior and a communion with a vast multitude of saints interceding for us now and at the hour of our death.

This story should reinforce Faith in our Savior, Hope in His Mercy and the Love of God and our fellow man that will lead us down the narrow path to salvation.

It should not lead us to despair.
