I was just informed that the Collegium Augustinianum is a fraudulent institution. Prior to this, I was led to believe that it was a legit place for philosophical studies. Can anyone shed light on this?

Well, it has been touted by one of its professors, Christopher Altieri, who also works for Vatican Radio and has published articles for Patheos, etc.

Unfortunately, it seems that what I heard today is true. Its a bunch of pretentious garbage.

I’ve been searching for info on the faculty, and thus far have come up with the following:
One is an elderly lawyer from the Pittsburgh area, who has been mayor of his town for 15 or so years, then a couple of years ago became a faculty member of this very pretentious sounding institution supposedly in Rome.

There is no info on the web (that I can find) about Rev. Prof Thomas D. Carroll.

The Chancellor really gets around. He’s “His Grace. The Most Rev. Craig J.N. de Paulo, Ph.D., D.D., Old Catholic Bishop”. According to Wikipedia, he is chancellor of the “Collegium Augustinianum Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology of Florida in Philadelphia, PA” 🙂 He’s also (in his spare time I guess), an adjunct instructor at Community College of Philadelphia. He is also Primate of the Old Catholic Confederation and its Archbishop of the United States!

That’s all the further I’ve gotten.

A number of them have an “ad eundem” from the Collegium - a “courtesy degree” from one institution to another. Hilarious!
Faculty member The Rev. Canon William J. Geider, D. Min, S.T.M., S.T.D. (ad eundem), S.T. M. (ad eundem) doesn’t show up anywhere in my searches.

They can call themselves whatever they want, but from what I read on Google, the whole thing sounds pretty fishy to me. Google Old Catholic Confederation and it says they are not followers of Rome.

I am not going to waste anymore time on this fradulent institution.

It is being called an “ecumenical” institution. Evidently, it is attended by Christians of various persuasions.
