There is much talk of free will, that instant in battle with the enemy where we either give in, white flag extended, and we are taken prisoner by show of our allegiance to demons, or win out and continue the fight and ready ourselves for the next attack.

But as with all war there are phases. Some are strategy, tactical and engagement.

Strategy, where we examine our conscience and try to determine preventive measures and alternatives for the next battle with demons. Tactical where we consider our placement in the scheme of circumstances we find ourselves. We try to position ourselves to our better advantage. We engage ourselves and bank on our weapons armament of graces and whilst caught in that split second war call on headquarters for the aid of spiritual artillery.

Those that give in are deemed not to have done their best, has “Headquarters” as determined that what was allotted was enough.

But prior to the next attack, one shrewd soldier came up with a perfect strategy that will prevent confrontation and as a result serve to retain the dignity of the leader and at the same time with it’s brilliance glorify him. In fact the son of the leader, His COS, suggested that this strategy is acceptable. He stated that if someone’s left hand caused him to sin, that he should cut it off. Implying sacrifice for the greater good. Our hero soldier is inspired and places his hope in this word.

So (PFC?) Taylor, plagued and fatigued by sexual battles, decided to use this example. He asked God to remove his sexual functions both physically and mentally. Now he thought, “Demons can’t use my sexual functions any more”. Yes, what a sacrifice he makes. :clapping:The celestial crowd are awed by such a sacrifice, this “hand” he voluntarily severs for the sake of his own life. He finds he waits in vain.

So the point is that free will occurs in the heat of battle after deployment into it. However he is not asleep until his next deployment. He prays for help in ridding himself of a “hand”/“gift”, that instrument that weakens his position, in order for his own survival.

Free will then becomes an empty argument of accusation against those who took the effort to ask to have removed the instrument (or object) of the war. Some are clearly not winning, in spite of the determination through observances, devotions and charity. They live waking days of terror and continuous awareness of their destiny. They are sincerely open to suggestions and endeavour to make straight, only to find the carrot pulled from them one more time. To them reprobate means branding and all evidence concludes to that. What can be the meaning of this intentional cruelty?. There can be no other reason than to provide some intrigue to the celestial audience, ('after all we did create him a vessel of wrath, dispensable and for our amusement." ) to observe the limits of human endurance, to test the limits of his sanity, only to have ready a stream of accusations of how he failed, or did not consider such and such, or had not responded on some communicative barely noticeable spiritual impulse.

One thing is for sure and glaringly obvious in all this. You will note there is not one courageous spiritual soul that will volunteer to put his state in reserve, be born of humanity and endowed with a temporary human soul, and struggle with faith as we all do to prove it is possible to become perfect. Not even for our sake, not even to glorify God.🤷

The celestial sphere loves risk as long has it doesn’t involve them. So lets broaden the field. The risk is that if he sins and doesn’t attain perfection, that something must be given up by them, hell gets watered down and demons no longer remain on parole, but are actually punished, never mind the feable exile excuse. The human spirit attains and retains the strength and attributes of the spirit of the higher angelic nature, this way punished humans can launch a reasonable resistance. Just to name a few.

In summary it leaves to be answered why human life is so insignificant that when our soldier having confessed and in a reestablished friendship cannot obtain one prayer, one sure thing that will assist him in his survival.

Eager demons may find the room “empty and cleaned”, …*but they couldn’t enter it if angels beat them to it. *

In order to help you in the pursuit of the truth, I think we need to know a little background information. At least I do.

That sounds like that Simon and Garfunkle song ‘Here’s to you Mrs Robinson’…🍿

If this is the agony in the garden, I like the humanity of our hero in the beginning paragraphs. It points to the sacramental character of life in Christ.
Alas, not to play down his redemptive purpose, but Jesus is not the candidate. He knew he was God, the candidate would be entirely human and left with uncertainties about his state. Jesus did not suffer anxiety of the unknown(other than end times of course). He could back on whatever measure of comfort that what he will go through is temporary. (analogy: millionaire living with street people.) He could not have struggled with Faith as he already had matured Faith.

Temptations would have been appropriate for humans, handicapped by his physical nature as we all have. He would struggle to have prayers answered, and the occasional embarrassment when a healing didn’t work out God would deem as satisfactory testing. A temptation to a god that offers what he knows he already possess isn’t an ideal example nor adequate testing. [Incidentally, is it coincidental that he disappears for the period of his sexual development. Perhaps our private in my hypothetical could have been assisted by *emulating him in this crucial phase of human development.] It would seem human sexuality is a challenge even human gods want to avoid.
and the loving comfort the angels of the Lord provide.
If who makes it to the “cleaned and empty room” first is any measure of sentiments toward humans, then it would appear that demons hate us more than angels love us, and of course we are assured the opposite is true.🤷 But tongue in cheek and doing my duty to assist in this ludicrous propensity of adding to the collective low esteem I must say…

“who are we to expect some clarification”.

Dispensibly yours, 🙂

Do you want people to react to what you wrote? Are you looking for a question to be answered? In other words, what is the purpose of the thread you created? (By the way, I think it was very well crafted)

Image of God:

Thank you.!

Merely to outline some important points that seem to be overlooked, inspire conversation, and to obtain opinions and viewpoints.

This is certainly not true of a Father who shares His power and takes the risk of having His love rejected for all eternity…

The stage for our tests occur in this plain of existence and in it the demands are met and our striving pursued. My point was that it is not unreasonable to expect that the goals we are to attain be proven possible within the human circumstance, and in this I stated one method in which God if he desired could lay to rest this doubt.

I think it could be agreed that if nothing else that to date a zero statistical count for candidates destined for the Perfection Hall of Fame makes for dismal inspiration material.

Jesus was entirely human. He was not half human, half divine. He was entirely human and entirely divine. Knowing your future does not necessarily soothe anxiety. I think the fact that Jesus knew so well how he was going to die was what created his more intense anxiety. Jesus was God, but he did feel, especially during his suffering on the cross complete abandonment by the Father. Jesus, too, being fully human was tempted with many things.

On your statement: “He could back on whatever measure of comfort that what he will go through is temporary.”

Anyone who trusts in God can do this. Even St. Teresa of Avila did this when she that “pain is never permanent”.

The test does not seem to be created by God but rather by the human who interpreted his relationship to God through the passionate experience of being human. To awaken to the power of being a passionate creature with a self-awareness based on innocent inquiry is the first step of developing free will. The next step in this development towards free will is determined by the authority who witnesses this innocent inquiry. This authority determines whether we internalize a loving God or a punishing God. Free will can only develop through love and is inhibited from development through fear.

I have an answer too - but rather than try to boast my own - I would rather defer to a master and quote Fr. John Hardon’s simple wisdom:

“The reason we were given a free will by God, is so we could freely give our will back to God.”

👍

Despite the original poster’s declaration of the “if the hand offends you, cut if off” section and how that pertains to “sexual functions” (and the celestial crowd being “awed by such a sacrifice” as voluntarily severing a “hand”), I have to strongly disagree, I don’t think castration or becoming a eunuch is the answer that God wants us to find. Being sexually pure is definitely a challenge, but I don’t think the answer is to cut off a physical appendage.

I think the “cut it off” refer more to those things in our lives things that improperly stimulate those sexual urges, namely pornography. Cut it out of your life. Eliminate dirty magazines, install some software on your computer that blocks things that you don’t find appropriate, turn off the TV, throw out those books, whatever is necessary, but avoid pornography like the plague.

I had a Jasmine plant at my backyard. I had to up root it and re-locate it six months ago.It had dried up in 2-3 months time, leaving no sign of life.I cut it off leaving a 2 inch stump at the bottom.Last week, to my surprise, I found it budding again from the stump! I wondered- was the little stump using its will power to come again to life all these weeks?

I found close similarity to all my body and mind functioning…all driven by built-in instincts! My nails and hair grows. My passions rise, but my reason–another instinct–rise to restrain it. What is left out purely as my own in me? Reason, if analyzed closely, would reveal it self as a sensor of order in mind, with a distinct inclination towards ‘returning the free will’ ( as rightly quoted by one of the bloggers in this thread) to GOD! Spirituality itself is, thus, an instinct, a function of Reason to make man turn towards truth, GOD. Man’s so called free will is his freedom to choose his attitude towards incidents in life. When he uses the ‘organ’ of mind to taste his life and ‘own’ it, he feels the heat of life and its existential agony. When he surrender the mind and ‘freewill’ to God, he becomes free. This attitudinal change is what he can choose, and can be termed as his freewill.
St.Paul advocate this attitude in Roams-2, 12-1’ offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God’…

Regarding sin too what he says is worth noting …Romans14-22 ‘Happy is the person who does not feel guilty when he does something he judges is right! …Anything that is not based on faith is sin’ - - again stressing the relevance of one’s attitude.
