Freemasonry - Where is it in the Catechism?

Hi there, I need scriptural help to convince my dad that Freemasonry is in contradiction with being a Catholic. Can you help me find what the Church teaches about Freemasonry, and its position about belonging to both the Catholic Church and the Masonic Hall? Can you specifically show me where it is in our Catechism? My dad will only accept the Bible and the Catechism.

Well, Freemasons came into being after the Bible’s canon, so you won’t the word 'Freemason" there. However, the Bible says this about the authority of the Church:
1 Timothy 3 :15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

15 “The pillar and ground of the truth”… Therefore the church of the living God can never uphold error, nor bring in corruptions, superstition, or idolatry.

and is the 1983 (most recent) declaration on Masonic Associations. It is signed by (then) Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, which again ought to be pretty solidly convincing, no?

If he does insist on the Catechism, give him this: Part 1, section 2-- 100,
The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him.

IOW, if the Pope, through his bishops/cardinals in the execution of their offices, is stating that we either do something, or we are forbidden to do something, then one obeys. God bless!

Moderen freemasory has only been around about 300 years so why would there be something in the Bible about it.

Now, this is very clear. I hope my dad will not do like the ostrich.
Another question I have is that my father told me that a friend of his who goes to his church is Catholic and Mason. Do I have a responsibility in exposing this person ?

Exposing? I don’t think so.
Once your father is satisfied, he should approach this friend and let him know what the Church has said.

But it probably would not hurt to approach your priest (or the priest at your father’s church), giving NO NAMES, and asking that the priest put into the bulletin the appropriate information about the Vatican Declaration, as well as having an announcement during church that the people are reminded that Catholics may not serve as masons, and that anyone who may be doing so should stop, and should schedule an appointment for confession, etc.
