Since i work on night shifts my whole schedule is completely messed up. Should i consider the Friday abstinence from Thursday 24:00 to friday 24:00.
My schedule is from Thursday at 19:00 to friday 7:00 then i go home and come back at 19:00 until Saturday 7:00 and so on for 4 days (or nights). then i have break some days and the cycle repeats. So should i consider the abstienence starting at 24:00 and ending at 24:00?

I have had a couple of brief stints at working the overnight shift. I used to go to bed when I got home on Friday morning from the Thursday overnight shift, and considered my “Friday” from the time I woke up Friday evening until I went to bed on Saturday morning. That’s when I did the Friday abstinence. I have no idea how theologically sound this is, but it seemed to work for me. Of course, on the Thursday night overnight shift I usually had a fish sandwich or a salad, but I’ve always been a light eater anyways. Then I’d do the same thing on the overnight shift Friday into Saturday. I figured it couldn’t hurt.

Not sure how helpful this is to you.

Fasting/abstinence (other than the Eucharistic fast) is based upon the Roman civil day from midnight to midnight rather than the Jewish day of evening (Vespers) to evening. So Friday abstinance is from Friday 00:00:00 to Friday 23:59:59.

Super, so this is how i will keep it, this is how i was doing until now also.

How about the fast on Good Friday? If i will be night shift how will i be able to keep the 1 meal per day and 2 snacks rule?

So on Friday you are working during the hours:
00:00 - 7:00, sleep, then 19:00 - 23:59

Are you trying to eat meals with a family or solo?

Thanks, Vico, guess I was doing it “wrong” those few years. No intention of doing night shift again, but it’s good to know.

I used to work those 12 hour shifts before on fast days, from 1900 to 0700. On Fri at my 3AM break, I would eat a light meal. Then on Fri, morning, before I went to bed I would eat a light breakfast. Then when I got up I would eat a regular supper, then back to work at 1900. You are permitted liquids between meals and I would drink some coffee to keep me awake.
