I know that meat is to be abstained from during lent on Fridays, (I abstain every Friday anyway) and that is the only requirement of the church in regard to Friday penance, but do you guys do anything other than that on Fridays? Something to go above and beyond? Extra prayers? Mass? Adoration? Please share if you don’t mind! 😁

We pray the Stations of the Cross as a family at home. Once everyone is old enough to somewhat behave we will probably do it at church instead.

Are there any Byzantine Catholic parishes in your area? You could go the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on Wednesdays or the service of the Small Compline the Akathist Hymn on Friday’s.

One can obtain the Friday Plenary Indulgence on all Fridays in Lent. Note that Good Friday is not considered a “Friday in Lent”, though you can get a plenary on that day by venerating the Cross at the Good Friday services, under the usual conditions.

Many churches also do Stations of the Cross on Fridays in Lent, for which you can also get a plenary under the usual conditions. To get the plenary for Stations, you need to do them at “approved stations” (normally that means stations installed in a church or at a shrine, etc), each station must have a cross either within the artwork or attached to/ next to the station, and you need to move between stations unless the church is crowded, in which case the priest or leader just moves between the stations and everyone else can stay in the pew.

It’s nice if people then give the plenary away to a poor soul in purgatory.

I can’t fast during Lent, so I’ll pray a rosary as an extra devotion.

Thank you for that reminder, Tis - I usually pray this on lenten Fridays after receiving Holy Communion, but I forgot last week.
