Hi, Rita

Where do they say they are sleeping? We know their mortal bodies are decaying into dust. They must be somewhere? If not purgatory, heaven, or hell then where are they?
IMO they haven’t really thought this through.

Peace.

Steve
Mostly I heard this from SDA’s who don’t believe that people do not immediately go to heaven when they die but “fall asleep” and will be awakened on the day that Christ returns.

An example of a verse that they use:

1 Thessalonians 4:13-15
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.…

When questioned as to the thief on the cross whom Christ said would be in Paradise with him that day they say that the rest of us use the wrong punctuation:

Verily, I say today, you will be with me in Paradise. (Luke 23:43) instead of Verily, verily I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.

Just a matter of a comma being placed in a different spot.

As far as where the soul is they teach this:

Seventh-day Adventists teach true “soul sleep,” meaning after death believers are not
of anything and their souls become completely inert until the time of the final resurrection of the dead. During this period of soul sleep, the soul resides in the memory of God.

I’m not sure what to believe myself, so I’m content to know that as one of Christ’s redeemed I will eventually be there myself. (I know - the sin of presumption )

God bless,

Rita
