I don’t really know. He reads a lot, but he isn’t even of Arab descent or anything. He is just a white guy from Kentucky. I know he had to receive the Sacraments growing up, but his mom didn’t like the Church and became involved with some very anti-Catholic Baptists when he was in high school.

I don’t know if she was maybe ignoring the signs, but she doesn’t like to talk about her husband’s faults to other people so maybe she knew about it. It looks like he has some books about Islam and some anti-Christian books, but he also has a lot of Protestant Bibles and books about non-Christian religions as well. I think all the pro-Catholic books are hers, but if there is a good one she could recommend to him he would read it. She just got him a book by Christopher West and he is really looking forward to reading it.

He couldn’t be under another person’s influence because he doesn’t spend much time on the internet and there aren’t any people with Muslim names around here that I know of.

He doesn’t like the Church here because they are always subtly supporting Democrat politics in the Church and he is a conservative Desert Storm veteran. He doesn’t appreciate the priest calling the war unjust and saying the stimulus package is from Jesus. But now he thinks celibacy is disordered and Trinitarianism is polytheistic and God wouldn’t have let Jesus die, and praying to saints is wrong and you shouldn’t have to go to Confession. I still see him at Mass, but he isn’t reverent, he doesn’t stand or kneel or receive Communion, and sometimes he just stays in the foyer with the baby instead of sitting with his family.
Sounds like he should just become a hardcore Evangelical. 😃

Converting to Islam is a bit extreme.

He is even tougher on the Protestants than he is on the Catholics! He uses the Catholic arguments against the Protestants, and the Protestant arguments against the Catholics. He would never be Protestant because he thinks of their churches as inauthentic. He believes the Apostles started the Catholic Church, he just thinks it is corrupt.

I thought it was weird that he didn’t eat pork, and then stopped eating shellfish for awhile. And then he fasts sometimes. I guess he seems to be groping around trying to find stuff that makes him feel more religious, and this Mohammed thing is just one of those things.

She is calling me a lot, she is going to visit the priest that married them. He has known the man’s family since his mother was a child so he probably knows more about him than I do.

LOL, he sounds very confused. I think the Mormons share in his beliefs that the Catholic Church is corrupt and about the Trinity not being one God. They are also extremely conservative. Sounds like a better fit to me. Not that I’m condoning leaving the Church, but if he has his heart set on it, he might as well go with a religion that still somewhat resembles Christianity in form.

Or maybe he just needs to see a therapist or something. Saying that his wife should be “obedient and submissive” is a red flag to me.

The part about his mom being involved with anti-Catholic Baptists may have something to do with how he views Christianity and possible hypocrisy.
