From noon to 3pm on Good Friday, what will you be doing?

I managed to excuse myself from Girl Scouts, citing the religious holiday. :bounce: It will be difficult for them to find another chaperone (which is why I was going to begin with), but a luau is not an appropriate way for me to be spending my time that day.

So, I’m going to get my son a little early from school, and we will go to the ecumenical procession on campus at the University of Utah at noon. We will not watch TV, use the computer, or listen to music that day. I am going to spend as much time as possible in prayer, and I will set my son about working on his Cub Scout religious award for the afternoon. We will have some prayer time together, but I can’t expect my ten year old to sit in quiet reflection all day We will go to services at 7:30.

I have a job interview on Good Friday starting at 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. It is four 45 minute interviews…I am interviewing with 4 different people. I have been laid off for a long time.

I’m afraid I’ll be working. The irony is that I teach in a Catholic girls school in Japan. In the 20 plus years I’ve worked here, we’ve never had a Good Friday off.

I am also taking off Good Friday, but don’t know if I will be able to attend services or not. I have back problems and was recently diagnosed with sciolosis, but it is getting better. My parish has a 3pm liturgy sevice with veneration, liturgy of the word, and holy communion (I went one year and it was almost two hours and with the constant standing and kneeling I don’t know how my back will hold up).

Another parish in the area has 9am morning prayer, 12 noon living stations, and 8pm liturgy with veneration, etc.

Another parish just has the 3pm service.

Hey, my brother and sister-in-law teach at an international/American Catholic girls’ school in Japan (Tokyo), too. They’re finishing their second year there, now, and have extended their contracts for at least another year. They love it. I was hoping that a Catholic school would lead them back to the Catholic faith, but I really have no idea what their faith is like.

My husband is taking Good Friday off and spending it with us. We will have Stations of the Cross at 12:10 (the hour we normally have daily Mass), Seven Last Words and Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00, then Celebration of the Lord’s Passion with Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion at 7:00. Between times, I’m not sure what we’ll do, but I’m usually the only one who would go for silence, no media, or no shopping.

I’m glad your brother and sister-in-law enjoy living in Japan and I do hope their work in a Catholic school leads them to explore the faith a little more. I’ll keep them in my prayer, as well as you and your family, during this Holy Week.

Hopefully working, since I will be laid off with no income for the summer months.

This year, while I would love to have the day off, I really need the income. Not a lot of selection at the Food Banks.

Well, I couldn’t NOT take the day off… When it comes right down to it…I wanted to be in Church… So I took the day off. Went to liturgy at noon. So beautiful.

I have spent today leisurely reading, praying, singing, coloring eggs with my DD, and watching youtube videos on the Passion.
