I just finished my 1st year of college, and I should be graduating in 2 years. I plan to enter a traditional seminary afterwards, either the international one in Germany (FSSP) or the one by the Institute of Christ the King in Italy. I heard that instruction is taught in French at the Institute’s seminary. Does anyone know what is the language of instruction at the FSSP’s? It doesnt say. I know the FSSP has a seminary in Nebraska or something, but I’d rather go to Europe (since I’ve studied French n German, I might as well perfect it while I’m there). Are there any major differences between the two religious orders? Im thinking about which order to join. The priest at my parish is from the Institute, so his opinion may be a bit biased 😃

They are not two different orders - they are two different seminaries serving the same society of priestly life.

In actuality, I am not certain this decision is up to you. I think it would be up to the superiors at your order. If they accept you, they will determine your formation process - including, which house of formation they send you to. You don’t tell them where you are going to study, they tell you.

Now others may correct me if I am wrong, but you always have the option of applying to a specific province - and that could include the France or Germany - but even then, there is no garuntee they would send you to the Geramn program.

But why come here to ask? Go right to the source -

fssp.org

Just pick a language - and go from there!

But, I thought the FSSP and the Institute of Christ the King were to different organizations/religious orders or sumthing, no?

You are correct - they are two different orders… I misread your OP asking about the Institute.

I believe the Institute’s seminary is in Italy.

The Institute’s Seminary is indeed in Italy, with formation in French.

FSSP have two seminaries. One is in Nebraska, where formation is in English only, and the other in Bavaria where formation is either in French or German.
