Is it possible to commit a mortal sin if at the time you commit the sin you do not fully realize and reflect on the gravity of your action? What if only later under an examinantion of the situation do you realize that what you did could have been considered grave matter? Am I right in thinking that in order to committ a mortal sin you have to have full knowledge of the gravity of the sin at the time that one freely commits it? Thank you for your help.

I’m 99% sure thats what is refered to as ‘full knowledge.’

I am also 99% sure thats’s what full knowledge means. But if upon reflection you think it might be Mortal, I think your Conscience is working for you and you should go to confession otherwise it is just going to bug you. Case in point. I recently read my 19 yr.old daughter’s diary. I did it without thinking but I did hesitate feeling it wasn’t right. Later upon examining my Conscience It let me know that I was stealing her thoughts and stealing is wrong so I went to confession over it and I feel better.
