Fun with the spiritual life?

Hello all!

I’m curious to know how people have grown in their spiritual lives and also had fun with it. I sometimes think it’s tempting for us to make our spiritual lives a bit bleaker than they need to be.

I don’t know, maybe this question isn’t of interest to anybody! Just checking!

Still working on it. It’s not really fun yet, but more of a chore.

For me, it’s more of a shock to truly live. Living true means accepting reality. Sometimes, reality isn’t easy, but with God’s help/grace I’m doing it.

I’m sure along the way, it’ll get easier and more enjoyable/fun. I can see it happening now.

I guess I find the label “fun” as happening at others expense. I would call it more of experiencing joy than having fun.

I wlas in a Lenten prayer group this year. We had fun in fellowship after the prayers. We drank coffee, ate donuts and learned a lot about the faith from each other.

I always say, if you are not doing penance, you should be having fun

Fun yes, but not in the sense of “entertainment” - more like contentment, and happiness that comes from involvement in rewarding pursuits, finding peace, appreciating God’s blessings. Knowing God’s love.

Growing in spirituality - One really needs a sense of humor when turning one’s problems over to God…'cause He certainly has a great sense of humor…a little twisted sometimes, but He does make me smile.

Are you really suggesting that he finds our struggles “funny”??

Of Course Not!!! He is loving and merciful. My point was that "if I was running things, I would solve a problem by doing “A”. But our Lord addresses our problems with a much more broad solution (say B through Z). In solving my problem, His solution touches and effects so many others most often in a positive way. Kind of makes this control freak (me) look like a total amateur. Do I think these small lessons in humility can be very funny…Yes I do. And as my friend, God just might laugh with me.

When I learned to serve at mass, I met many new friends. Get-togethers with them are always enjoyable

I also feel a deep sense of joy in using liturgical elements in my prayers (adapting the wording of some Prefaces and mass responses, using the Liturgy of the Hours, using liturgical songs, etc.). Had I not learned how to serve at mass, I would not be so deeply in love with the liturgy 9and would not be a joyful Catholic)
