Does anyone know if we can have funeral Mass on All Souls Day? Just happened to have someone died today (Thursday) and as a tradition here, the body remain in the house until burial. Plan to buried him on All Souls Day (Saturday). All Souls Day is not a day of obligation. Funeral Mass is not allowed on All Saints Day (Friday) and Sunday. Monday would be too long to keep the body in the house. I guess I can have a funeral in church without communion (outside Mass).

Yes (a very appropriate day). A funeral mass is allowed on Sundays in OT and on All Saints Day (if not a holy day of obligation). Burying the dead is, after all, a corporal work of mercy.

First, my condolences and I will remember them in my prayers for all the departed on Saturday.

As InThePew states, funerals are allowed on Sundays in Ordinary Time, but by tradition they normally aren’t (plus many priests are too busy with regular masses on Sundays).

It would be up to the pastor if they could do it, but since it is not one of the proscribed days for a Funeral Mass, and indeed is one of the few times that a mass for the dead is not just an option, there is no liturgical reason to not have a funeral mass. Personally I think it would be a very poignant day to do it to remember them along with all the faithful that have gone before them.

Speak with your pastor. The Church might not want to schedule a funeral on All Saints simply because there are other scheduled Masses. Churches always work to make sure that a funeral Mass is possible. Don’t take other’s word, talk to the priest.
