Not personally, but, as many know, there was a run on toilet paper. I don’t know whether this idea caught on because of an Internet prank, but the stores in many parts were empty in no time.

I did buy a lot of frozen food.

Nothing really. We shop for non-perishable items monthly; might have done that a week early. I did by a pack of toilet paper and send it to my son as a joke.

BTW, this isn’t the only time there was a run on TP.😮

I did buy packets of vegetable seeds…and roasted parsnips today 😋 But the cold Winter and soggy garden didn’t allow for all the fresh vegetables I envisioned.

Tissues/Kleenex. Everyone else was stockpiling TP, but I thought if this thing is similar to a cold/flu, then tissues are gonna be needed. Just as well I did stock up, cause the next time I went shopping the shelves were almost bare!

I ordered a 12 pack of off-brand toilet paper through Amazon back in April that never arrived. I just now got a refund. Meanwhile, TP is back in stock in our grocery stores. When rolls of paper towels were also scarce, I ordered a case of trifold paper towels like you’d find in a public restroom dispenser. I’m still using those, even though rolls of paper towels are available locally again. There seems to be a Spam shortage now, but that’s probably a good thing for my health.

In early March I was getting ready to leave the country for a week and there were rumblings of coronavirus, so I did go out the night before my trip and buy a big pack of TP. I was glad I did because by the time I got back there was none to be had, for literally weeks. It was Easter before I saw any again at Walmart, and it was May before the grocery store closest to my house had any. While we were out of the country, someone heard there was no TP in the state of California, and went to the local store that was full of TP and bought enough to fill a suitcase to take home.

This doesn’t count as “funny things,” but here it is: asthma inhalers. Early in the pandemic, these were in short supply. One of those, Flovent, is wicked expensive, like $260 on my crummy health plan, but I bought it regardless.

Most of the time, I don’t experience asthma. For me, the only trigger is respiratory viruses, like the common cold (which is, by the way, a mild coronavirus). So I wanted to be ready.

The funny thing is, before I got my asthma meds, I had a flu-like illness with mild asthma, and I was thinking, “I’ve really gotta have my meds ready before that coronavirus comes around.” Now I have reason to believe (antibody test) that that illness was covid-19.

I panic-bought rice.
We had plenty of TP, but it was in my head that as long as we had rice, we’d be set 🙂
