I am a recent convert, was recieved into the church a year ago, and I would like to further my Catholic Education, in understanding and appreciating Catholic Doctrine, Catholic History, and Sacred Scripture/Tradition. Does anyone hear know of any good ways I can do this besides occasionally stumbling across a good theology book? Thanks and God bless.

There is a free (donations accepted) Catholic Home Study Service available online at cin.org/cis.html or by mail with workbooks at amm.org/chss.htm .

You may also want to view Father John Corapi’s extensive video series, “The Teachings of Jesus Christ.” It is often aired on EWTN television and radio stations. You can purchase it at fathercorapi.com/ (click on “Browse by Category”/“Catechism Series”). It may also be available from other sources; I have not checked.

Check with your diocese. My diocese offers adult Catholic Education courses that are very good. Some are at Holy Cross College in Worcester, others are at various parishes around the diocese.

Consider reading about the saints. Bob and Penny Lord have many books on the lives of the saints and they are easy to read and understand. Each one had a call to holiness that we can learn and attempt to imitate in our life. The one thing that is most prevalent in each saint’s life is their reverence of the Eucharist and it’s centrality in their life.

Additionally, they provide a good history of the church, especially if you read about saints from the 1200’s - 1500’s.

Yes, but be careful as it seems that very many people teaching these days are actually teaching heresy. I would suggest you read Pascendi Dominici Gregis by Pope St. Pius X before you search for a “further education”.

Here is a link to the encyclical mentioned above:

Well if your diocese is teaching heresy, who can you trust?

I have full faith in my Bishop and the programs he authorizes.
