Look it up in a dictionary. I’m sure Saint Paul was discouraging every definition!

means wild parties and since it is pared with orgies, you should be able to guess what that is all about too. St. Paul was talking about uncontrolled behavior.

Originally, a κωμος was a town carnival, a rolling street-party, sometimes with connections to a religious festival, and sometimes not. However, the context in which Paul places it, alongside drunkenness and murder, quite clearly demonstrates that such parties were getting out of hand.

Is he saying, “Thou shalt not have friends over for drinks?” No, he is saying, “Do not have the kind of party which results in the riot police being called.”
