It seems like since the start of time there have been those who take advantage of programs set up to help the poor and needy.
I hear some people who are critical of social programs set up to help the poor. I have heard these people on welfare called lazy and bums.
As Christians we are called upon to help those who are in need.
AMEN 🙏

Christ was clear about how we are to help those in desperate need in the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Notice that Good Sam did not hand someone a bag of money, instead he took the man to a shelter/facility, made a large donation and said “if you need more donations to help, let me know”.

The Catholic Church operates more outreach than any other group on earth.

Social programs to help the poor can help in the short term. Significant long term results would need commitment to change in policy, and ideology for some.

You will always get some of that in any welfare system. It is the price paid to make sure the people who really need the services get them.

Personally, I am OK with it. Not OK with people taking advantage, but OK that the system is set up so that a certain percentage of the folks who use the services are abusing the system. Why? Becuase the alternative would be having no system, and from a greedy perspective I don’t really want to live in a society with that much poverty in my face, every day. Of course I also want to see those who need the help get the help, because I am a good person 🙂
