I made a post yesterday about not being sure of what I want to do, and considering a gap year after a year or two into college. It is more of just a putting-it-out-there information, and not much of a point for response.

Here is the link to the post if interested: Taking a gap year to volunteer abroad in Costa Rica - #2 by Lee1

However, I would like to know your thoughts about it. What are your thoughts on taking a gap year from formal education? If your high school graduate or college student were to propose taking a gap year, what would you say about it?

If my child came to me to propose taking a gap year, I’d want to know their plan for the gap year and how they’ll transition back to college studies. If the plan were to goof off, forget it. To work abroad, a mission, or for a charity, I’d want more details, but would likely support the idea if they didn’t journey into a dangerous part of the world.
Sounds like you have a plan and just need to work on the details. God Bless

I think it is VERY wise to spend some time getting to know yourself, understand how the world works, working, paying bills, etc. If you did not do this during High School, a gap year or a short stint in Peace Corps or the Military can be a very wise decision.

Thanks for updating.
It’s a good idea as the two previous posters have said, but be disciplined about returning afterwards to your studies.

Good luck in whatever you do, remember to ask for guidance from above, there are many who care about you especially Our Father.

Take care and God bless.
