Gay bishop treated for alcoholism

http://images.thetimes.co.uk/images/trans.gifThe Anglican Communion’s first openly homosexual bishop, Gene Robinson, is being treated for alcoholism.

“I am writing to you from an alcohol treatment centre where, with the encouragement and support of my partner, daughters and colleagues, I checked myself in to deal with my increasing dependence on alcohol,” the Bishop of New Hampshire wrote in an e-mail. He added that he had been dealing with alcoholism for years

They aren’t vices, he was born gay and is free to be gay irregardless of what God has to say on the subject. And the alcoholism is a disease. The only disease that requires one to guzzle mass amounts of fluid that impares their judgment to prolong the disease…

Remember in today’s society there’s no such thing as personal responsibility, vices, or sinning. It’s all either you’re born that way, or it’s a disease…

Oh yeah. I forgot.

At least he’s doing something to help himself. You can laugh at him and make cracks about him, but at least he’s recognizing a problem and taking steps to correct it. That’s more than a lot of people do and it takes a great deal of strength and courage to what he’s doing and to do it in public. Give him a break and pray for him instead of making fun of him.

You’re a better and more charitable person than I. Okay, when I’m done making jokes at his expense, I’ll pray for him. Dear God, why must they be such good jokes, though?

I was a big time booozer in my day, but when it threatened tearing my family apart, I stopped it’s not a disease. I guess since having real life experience with it, I’m harder on those that don’t accept personal responsibility for stuff like that. Plus he continues to live an openly homosexual lifestyle that he knows is wrong, but in the end it is his decision.

Yes, he’s addressing the small problem and ignoring the large one. Living an immoral life which creates scandal and sin among your flock is a very serious offense. He’s obviously a man who has a problem controlling his disordered appetites. He should not be a priest, let alone a bishop. Thank God he’s not Catholic. You are correct in saying he needs our prayers.

Please pray for this man. Let us not judge his actions. Having been on the “other side” I know he needs prayer

Please, pray for him.

Last week an acquaintance told me about her son who has the disease of drug addiction. I think you catch that the same as you can “catch” alcoholism… I have not heard of the “gay” disease but no reason it can’t fall under the same heading as other personal problem “diseases”.

Love and peace,

True alcoholism may very well be a “disease” or it may not be. I don’t know. One thing that it most definately is is extremely difficult to “cure” oneself of. By the time alcoholics realize there is a problem, they cannot just put down the bottle. Alcoholism honestly needs a treatment regimen and outside help.

Alcoholics usually ask the question internally, “how can you only have just one drink?” They have literally lost the ability to judge how many drinks is acceptable. They need someone to help him. I pray that Bishop Robinson gets the help he needs to cure his dependance on alcohol. Regardless of where you stand on his sexual orientation, we can all agree that he could use our prayers to help him through this particular situation.

The man has almost single handedly destroyed the Episcopal church .It has been suspended from the world wide Anglican Communion. All the Eastern Orthodox churches have broken relations with it.Even Rome has limited meetings with the Episcopalians. It s possible that at the next Lambeth convention. The Episcopal church will be expeled from the communion.
It is a very sad situation.
