I recently found this link and was disturbed by what it says.
saints.queerchurch.info/?page_id=832

Is it true that gay men can become husbands of Christ?

Can can I refute what it says about allowing same sex “marriage” because of the mystical marriage blessed Bernardo seems to have had with christ?

They are very much mistaken, in the way of those who posed the question of the woman who had married seven brothers without producing any children:

Jesus said to them in reply, "You are misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven. Matt. 22:29-30

Christ Himself has risen, and is the firstborn of the dead. Therefore, to be a Bride of Christ has nothing to do with forming an erotic attachment to the Lord. Rather, it is to anticipate the life of the saints, those who have merited to rise from the dead and live as the angels live. This is the life of those who live the consecrated life, whether men or women.

The notion that the Magisterium perceives marriage in one manner, but that Catholic Tradition itself is open to forms of marriage that the Magisterium is not, is simply not a Catholic way of viewing things.

It’s not you and I who read the writings of Saints and interpret them for the Church; but rather, the Church tells us how to understand not only the Saints, but the Tradition full stop. (The first view is Modernism pure and simple; the second is simply Catholicism.)

The presuppositions of the article, therefore, are flawed: they stem from an understanding of Tradition and its relationship to the Magisterium which is simply not Catholic.

I think it’s very unfair that someone should therefore describe this approach as being Catholic and compatible with Catholic orthodoxy. This is to say nothing of their ultimate conclusions, which are seemingly heretical.

Incidentally: mystical marriage is actually the highest form of contemplation which is possible here on earth, as far as I understand it. To be in this state of grace basically requires that you’ve utterly stopped sinning, including all venial sins, and that you, on account of this state, have an infallible revelation of your belonging to the elect.

I’m sorry, but anyone who tries to draw parallels between this and a state of objective mortal sin, such as engaging in same-sex relationships, would appear to be highly delusional.

I find the mere fact the link is named “saints.queerchurch.info” to be disturbing and heretical. Why even bother clicking it?

👍

Individual intent on legitimizing sin will use any sort of mental gymnastics, language-play, or misrepresentation to get their way. They see what they want to see because they want to see it. It doesn’t matter how much evidence there is against their claim, people like those who run this site will continue to try to find “loopholes” to legitimize their sinful behavior. All we can do is pray for them and ask that God have mercy on them and us at our particular judgments.

Thank you.

OP, why would you think you would need to refute this? This obviously isn’t a legitimate Catholic site.

One of the symptoms of the profound disorder of homosexuality is that this one aspect they perceive in themselves overshadows any other aspects. This is of course a false construct, so to be maintained it must be propped up. Hence their tendency to homosexualize people and institutions outside of themselves. One such person told me “Everyone is gay. They are just afraid to act on it.” Such is the deceit of Satan. 😦

Sure, and a similar claim could be made that…“everyone is a sinner. They are just afraid to act on it.” Perhaps some are not afraid, just know better and are graced to seek the true, the good and the beautiful above eye candy or sensual gratification. Fear is not the only motive for doing anything, despite what some people assume.

Is there any other kind of mystical marriage? I mean–do you necessarily have to be that perfect to be a bride of Christ? I asked Him if I could marry Him and I felt His Presence very strongly say “yes” in my soul and that we are married. I know I would never marry anyone else and I’ve known that for a long time. (Of course, I did ask at a time when I was a lot more “perfect” than I am now, mostly because of a medication I was taking that helped me to be chaste; that was only a side-effect and there were other less pleasant side-effects. I wish that there was something else I could take with that being the only effect…)

On the contrary, love is the only motive for doing anything and everything by everyone. Sin is just inordinate love. Fear just shows you what you truly love, for you fear losing what you love.

The Catholic view of marriage is not some abstract, mystical concept. While a sacramental marriage as a vehicle for God’s grace does carry a mystical dimension, any valid marriage, whether sacramental or natural, is rooted firmly in mankind’s history and tradition. Moreover its very nature can be demonstrated both anthropologically and… scientifically.

During the marital act, the couple enter into a physiological union by engaging in the only physiological process that requires two individuals, where both become one one physiological entity for the purpose of procreation. It is without parallel in mammalian biology as no other physiological process requires two individuals to complete. Mankind naturally built an institution around this act in order to provide a stable environment to cater to the needs of its natural end: children.

Although this institution has known different forms over time, e.g. polygamy, there was always one necessary element: that at least a carnal union of a man and a woman be involved. If that carnal union did not take place, the marriage could be annulled, even in civil law.

No amount of “mysticism” can alter that fact. What has been proposed as SSM, really isn’t “marriage”. It is at best a pseudo-marriage or imitation of marriage, but it cannot be marriage. Just because both a plane and a car have wheels, does not mean a car can fly.

When I wrote to my government about 10 years ago when this debate was hot in Canada, I focused mostly on this aspect, knowing full well that the religious dimension would fall on deaf ears (even though our PM at the time was a practicing Catholic).

Since the word “marriage” has now been denatured by this debate, perhaps we need to invent a new word for what was once known as “marriage”.

While I disagree with SSM on philosophical and scientific grounds, on the other hand I don’t think that the sky will fall based on the SCOTUS decision. It didn’t in Canada. The institution of marriage was already undermined and made fragile by prior social tendencies such as divorce on demand and cohabitation. If anything divorce has done far more damage, as the number of people seeking SSM will necessarily always be a small proportion of the population. On the other hand, divorce, and its social fallout, is affecting around 50% of marriages and causing great damage to our children.

The important thing following this decision is to protect religious liberties so that those who disagree are not forced to officiate at SSMs. This is already an issue in Canada; although a Church cannot be forced to perform them, a Catholic Justice of the Peace must by law perform them even against the dictates of his or her conscience, or they they won’t, they must renounce their office. This is, IMHO highly discriminatory.

The mystical union with Christ is another matter altogether, and even though it has spousal connotations, it is open to male, female, homosexual or straight, and has to do with giving ourselves over to Christ.

Seems a tad self-absorbed. Love is willing the good for other as other. If you love someone the question of possessing or gaining for oneself is not a feature. The good for the other may mean letting them go which means “losing” them is quite compatible with loving them.

I am also not clear that hatred is necessarily inordinate love, but I could be persuaded.
