as an altar boy in the 50s & 60s (i trained and worked under that term, and i prefer it), i learned the latin well… i loved the rhythmic flow and that i could travel anywhere and know what was being said, because every priest said it the same way… churches can get permission to celebrate mass in the traditional latin… im glad to know that, but the churches celebratiing in latin in my area are a distnce to travel, and i must settle for the english mass… i can still recite some portions in “church latin”… it was hard to absorb, but in the end, my group knew we had achieved something special in pronouncing, if not understanding, what we were saying… being an “old guy”, i can safely say that these new kids (“altar servers”) dont know how easy they have it…
