i’m sitll confused by this, complementary but different?

what are these differences that are supposed to be so obvious between men and women? and what happens if you don’t fit in to these differences?

what if a woman is more withdrawn and prefers physical or intellectual pursuits instead of nurturing kids? or what if a male is more sensitive?

i mean, we know when someone is a male of female but its not usually by what they do or how they act. i look at my own parents and neither of them are very nurturing, there isn’t one that’s more of a leader than the other or more protective. i feel like it’s more of a complex issue than just the things we like or our emotions. they things are not the same from one human being to another, not to mention men and women.

thoughts? am i even making sense?

Here is a great article that might help:

Gender complementerity has to do with the natural differences between males and females in a lot of areas. The sexual aspect is obvious. There are also biological differences- women have the babies, for instance.

I don’t think the Church has a problem with suiting roles to the specific talents and personalities of the two people. They are much more concerned with the spiritual and moral quality of the marital relationship. As long as the two people treat each other with love and respect, I don’t think it is generally an issue.

Generalities are always too simplistic. They say that opposites attract, however without commonly held values a marriage is very difficult, especially when children come along.
You are right to suggest that complimentary traits are often hard to find, everyone is different.
I think it is up to every couple to find their own internal structure they can be happy with, both in power; responsibilities and also modes of affection.
I think there is a lot of bunkum being developed just to sell books.
