Our priest is counseling our family and recommended we, us parents, do a General Confession. Do you think he would be offended if we requested another priest for the General Confession? Or do you think he would be better able to counsel us if we did our confessions with him?

IOW, would the General Confession with him help guide how he helps us? Or would it not matter what priest we go for our confession?

Peace.

I don’t think the priest would be offended. If you are worried about that just ask him.

The graces you receive from a general confession are really a separate issue from counseling. Any priest can offer guidance as part of confession, but that is really a separate thing.

If your hope is for better guidance during subsequent counseling then you run into an issue of the seal of confession. Whatever you reveal in confession can’t be used outside of confession. That is unless you also reveal that information outside of confession.
