General Intercessions for Sunday Mass

I recently cancelled our parish subscriptions to a booklet that we were using for the Sunday Prayer of the Faithful because I thought that they were becoming too “politically correct.” Aside from the sample intercessions that are found in the Sacramentary, can someone recommend a resource or website that provides sample intercessions that are more doctrinally sound and/or scriptural? Thank you!

Father, I, too, have been frustrated with what OCP has had to offer us week in and week out. The ones for this weekend were really bad. They almost never pray for the Holy Father, nor his intentions, for that matter.

What I used to do was write them on my own for the parish. What I have seen a couple of parishes do is have the priest read them straight out of the Roman Missal, which is what I experienced today at daily Mass.

As the previous poster said, the ones from the Magnificat are pretty good and they manage to incorporate the General and Missionary intentions of the Holy Father.

There were an inordinate number of petitions about “corporate” spending, use of money, “Church wealth,” and nothing even remotely spiritual or prayers for the Holy Father, etc. I have no problem praying for the poor, of course, and the responsible use of resources, but these intercessions were over the top and that was the last straw.

Have you considered writing your own intercessions? At my seminary, when the college and theology are celebrating mass together, the deacon writes, and reads the intercessions. When it is just the college, the lector is responsible for writing/reading the intercessions. It really does not take that long, just follow the hierarchy set out in the GIRM and to be honest, once you have several options, you can mix and match and make additions as necessary.
