I tend to think Ezekiel 18 is more consistent with the New Testament

Ezekiel 18:19-20

“19 Yet you ask, ‘Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live. 20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.”

Deuteronomy 24:16 “Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.”

I also tend to believe

Romans 8:1
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Curses I tend to believe are things that are deemed as evil consistently by Lord God of the OT, the Prophets, Jesus, and the Apostles in the New. Those are the curses that come upon a person, IMHO, that were not, are not, and will not be in Christ

I’m trying to learn how to use this site. I hope I’m doing this correctly.
I have been informed by some people that there is generational curses. I have even been tolled that I must have one. I need to know if there is such a thing that is put on families?
Code:
                                                                                   Your's Truly,
                                                                                wkbrown:shrug:
If I remember correctly, the only references to generational curses are in the OT, and that leads me to believe that under the New Covenant, generational curses are no longer in existence or in effect. I think that generational curses are more consistent with the justice of the OT than with the mercy of the NT.

I don’t think that Jesus burdens children with the sins of their parents, although, obviously, one family member’s sin will have an effect on the lives of other family members, but that is not a curse, and those raised in poverty or other difficult circumstances may find it very challenging to rise above such things, though that is also not a generational curse, and is just an opportunity for other people to show compassion.

All in all, no, I don’t believe that generational curses exist any more. In saying this, I don’t mean to diminish your suffering, but I do intend to fill you with hope. God loves you, and He will help you live a meaningful life in accordance with His will as long as you try to communicate with Him. If you still are concerned about generational curses, speak to your priest. He’ll be able to give you the information and inspiration you need.

I think perhaps that the best thing to do would be to talk to a priest who has clear-cut, first hand experience in this sort of thing.

Think of healing your family tree much as an estate cleaning after a recent funeral, where all sorts of junk and treasure can get passed down. You have to just make sure to get rid of the junk – like we get rid of Original Sin (a well known generational curse) with the Sacrament of Baptism.
