Generational Sin?

This is how I think of it as well. The temporal effects of sin effect us and those around us, sometimes for generations. It’s fairly easy to see how the same types of sin seem to repeat themselves within families. Another good reason to avoid sin int he first place because it IS going to effect everyone around you. People often want to think sin is a private matter, but it’s really not.
This is how I think of it. After all, I don’t think God thinks up abitrary punishments for sin. God doesn’t make laws along the lines of “do this, or I’ll whack you”. Rather, God’s laws are “go this way, because this way leads to life. Stay away from that way, it will cause pain”

I think God lets us have real choices that have real consequences. What absolution does is accomplish our free-will return to him (forgiveness takes one, reconciliation takes two), which gives us access to the grace necessary to address the consequences, rather than just suffer through them.

Thanks to the responses to this post – I had actually forgotten about it, until I went to a lecture by Father Corapi, and bought a book by Fr Tom Euatenuer – in his book Exorcism and the Church Militant, he mentions generational curses – I don’t have the book in front of me, so I can’t quote from it.

I’ll be picking up Healing your Family Tree, and speaking to my priest about a healing Mass. I’ll also be leaning heavily on St Micheal as well.

Thank you all so much … sorry I’ve neglected this site for so long.

Diana, I forgot about this post as well. I have also heard Fr. Corapi address the subject of the reality of evil. He is very convincing. It is not necessary to dwell on this topic nor to become fearful about it. It is just something we should all be aware of and take very seriously. I am interested in the book you mention. Thanks -
