Looks like eugenics will be the law in Canada:
Genetic Screening of Embryos to be “Regulated” by Health Canada
Eugenic killing of ‘defective’ embryos certain to follow screening tests

OTTAWA October 5, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Health Canada is ready to take the next step towards implementing Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, where eugenics rules and only the perfect live. A Health Canada media release announced that it would be considering providing IVF facilities with guidelines for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) of embryos.

Full Story
The article mentions Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. I have been thinking about getting the book to read, but have not. Maybe I should.

Of course, IVF always results in the death of several “extra” embryos. IVF is not something that anyone sensitive to the sanctity of life ought to be engaging in at all.

I wonder if Canada will eventually require all babies not concieved through IVF and therefore “screened” for imperfections to be aborted or recieve no health insurance? It seems within the realm of possibility.

:yup:

Add to that a future where ANYONE detected through Mandatory prenatal testing that is found “defective” must be aborted, or risk NO health care.

Think China

Isn’t it wonderful that we live in such an enlightened society as Canada? / sarcasm

I’m slowly starting to consider moving to another country… geesh!

Only in Canada! Let’s always be the first to offend God and please the feminists, scientists and the devil.

What will it take to wake up this nation?

I re-read Aldous Huxley’s brave new world a couple of years ago.
I read it first in high school(many years ago!) I would highly recommend that book. Don’t know if Huxley was a believer or not- but that man was prophetic! We are headed for a society exactly like that if pro-life doesn’t prevail. It ws written, I think, in 1931 when the idea of seperating sex and procreation were unheard of.

There was an artilce Wednesday in the Ottawa Citizen, “Embryo Testing Under the Microscope” by Margaret Munro.

…Health Canada is looking for public views on how far PGD should be allowed to go. PGD can already screen for mutations known to trigger more than 100 debilitating genetic diseases, and researchers are now uncovering genes that appear to increase people’s chance of getting heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. They are also homing in on genes linked with syndromes like Tourette’s, and such traits as intelligence.

Should PGD be used to screen embryos for diseases that occur late in life, such as Huntington’s disease, a genetic disorder that slowly destroys the brain in middle age? Or for genes that increase susceptibility to cancer, but may never actually trigger the disease? “Is it justified to select against embryos for these conditions, especially if treatment or cure could be developed in the intervening time,” asks the Health Canada document that will be used to “help advance thinking” about PGD regulations expected next spring…
