Is there a functioning link that states whether or not Gerry Matatics is in communion with the See of Rome? And more specifically, if he is not, does that mean he is excommunicated & if he dies, will he end up in Heaven or Hell, since he believes the current pope is an “antipope”?

It is not to judge the condition of his soul. The Catechism of the Catholic Church recognizes the existence of invincible ignorance. I suggest that we pray for him.

Gerry Matatics is a self-described sedevacantist, who according to several sources (Karl Keating, the man who founded CA, is one) goes even beyond that and doesn’t believe there are valid Catholic Masses anywhere including in SSPX. I doubt he considers himself in communion with Rome as he doesn’t believe in the papacy to begin with.

Scranton diocese has nothing about him on their website (which is where excommunications usually get posted) and they are probably not going to bother to issue some formal excommunication, as he was not a priest and held no church position. He’s just another blogger and pundit who goes around spouting ill-conceived opinions on websites. Excommunication in a public documented way is usually reserved for priests, religious, and those in public ministry who disobey orders from their superiors or start their own churches. The church doesn’t bestir itself to publicly excommunicate every random layperson who goes around giving speeches.

As for whether he is “damned”, he’d have to be dead for that to happen and even then we have no way of knowing how God would judge him. You should pray for him if you think he might be on a path to perdition.

Then perhaps all you need to do is ask for prayers for him, not ask about excommunication.
