Getting back to our roots during this pandemic

This has more than one meaning, of course.

More time at home offers more opportunities for studying one’s family history and genealogical roots.

But we also uncover another basic honesty: The roots on top of our heads. During these periods of greater seclusion, and with all the hair and nail salons being closed, we’re all going to rediscover our natural hair colors. Even if one colors one’s own hair at home, those products are going to run out and repurchasing them may not be possible. They are considered non-essential. People’s finances may not permit it, right now.

So, yeah. We’ll be getting back to our roots in more ways than one. Long hidden truths about ourselves are starting to come out. And this may not be a bad thing. Some of us might even rediscover our long-lost sense of humor. And believe me, we’re going to NEED that ability to laugh at ourselves and some of the ridiculous situations we might find ourselves in.

I think a lot of us are going to start cherishing what’s really important. And that can be one positive outcome from this crisis.

I used to dye my hair and wasn’t sure how grey I’d gone until two or three years ago I got my hair straightened and the chemical literally pulled all the pigments out.

Turns out I’m salt and pepper, but more pepper.

I like it. I’m not going back.

I only have a few strands here and there of grey despite my age, but I doubt I will ever dye my hair. Too much upkeep for me. 😊 My mom had silvery grey hair which I am hoping to inherit, but who knows.

My hair was originally blond (which is odd, because I am not fair skinned), then became brown, and is starting to get reddish. I have never dyed my hair, and never will. My 17 year old sister has purple hair, for some reason. The point is going to be moot for me, in a few years, since I am going bald. Right now, I have hair past my shoulder, but it’s not going to be there in a few years. You know what? I am okay with it. My mom, however, keeps telling me that I can get stuff to stop it. I don’t want to.

❤️❤️❤️ for you!

I retired over two years ago and at that time, decided I was done trying to keep some color in my hair. I went through some ugly two toned looks and very short haircuts to discover that I really like my gray hair! I always thought, if I hate it, I can color it again! But, I don’t.

However…I’ve been growing my layers out and have a cut at the moment that can’t wait too much longer before it will need shaping again! I had an appt on April 6th but, of course, it’s cancelled. I’m going to have to resort to a wig…which I don’t own…or some kind of hat or scarf until I can visit a hairdresser again. It’s starting to look horrible! And I have no idea what to do about it.

One of my last artificial hair colors was purple, but it was dark enough that in the indoor light it just looked like a nondescript “dark” color and it was professional enough for work.
But in the bright sunlight it was PURPLE. 😆

My grandpa had black hair, very black hair, with a little gray (and I mean very little) until his death. My grandma had black hair, but it did get quite gray. My mom dyes her hair, which is odd, since everyone thinks she is too young to have kids my age (I am not even the oldest). I guess this is one of those things that men aren’t supposed to understand.

Headbands. Combs. Scarf. Pony tail, or clipped back.

I cut my own hair because I can never explain what I want, lol!

I don’t mind the gray color, but somebody wanna tell me why the texture has to be so weird in my grays?! Ugh! 🙂

I can cut other people’s hair…nothing fancy but most basic cuts and layers but not my own! I could trim the sides but it’s the back that needs reshaping. Hair clips might work for a bit! I’ll have to buy some pretty ones!

I know! When I first started getting gray hairs, they were like some thin wire. Now that I’m all gray, it’s no longer like that…it’s thinner than it used to be but very soft. I’m also white in the front and pepper in the back…people pay big bucks to get that look! 😅😅😅

It started wiry. Now it gets curly in any humidity, but not a nice curly. The color is kinda fun…pushing me from red back to a more strawberry blond look, only it’s strawberry gray :-).

I have rather short, layered hair. I like to keep it short due to the recent wonky texture problem. I’m gonna have some really funky hair if cuts are off the table for too long!

What a first world problem we face! Perhaps Mr Trumps wife can point out the necessity of beauticians? 😂

I do think that we might be seeing a lot of shaggy looking women and men before this ends. I’ll take shaggy looking over dead but I won’t like it! 🤣

I went through something similar but with eye colors. When I was a baby I had grayish eyes then growing up they turned a rich brown and now they’ve darkened into a beady black (it’s brown but really dark so as to seem black, but you won’t notice that unless you peer closely, which only a few significant others have ever done).
Right now, I have hair past my shoulder,
Ooh I’m trying to grow it out- and this lockdown is a perfect opportunity. I usually crop it real short but it’s been growing out for a month now and looks kinda good, but takes some work to fix. I spend about ten minutes combing, wetting, and patting it in the morning. Quite annoying! As I usually have early-morning classes, I started cutting it short to save myself the hassle. Great time to experiment now.

That’s very nice of you! One of the ushers at mass used to do that too. Always had it pulled back in a very neat pony tail.

@Salibi, it’s so good to see you! We were all worried about you because you hadn’t been on in a while! 🙂

I put mine in a ponytail, sometimes. Usually when a certain woman is involved.

That it is. I haven’t shaved in forever. I always have a moustache, but usually try to shave my beard. Sometimes, I admit, I am just lazy.
