about 4 years ago i started believing in Christianity after a whole childhood and teen years of atheism. I recently started attending the local Anglo-Catholic church near my house and i also started the meetings and prep to get baptised. But i am wondering if it would be a sin to get baptised in this church? I consider myself Catholic (i know im not officially one yet) and a traditionalist one at that. This church is definitely anglo-catholic (they are basically Catholic except in name). I know they are not truly in communion with Rome and they are, technically, Protestant. is it wrong or sinful to get baptised in this church? should i stop going and start going to a Catholic church? i cannot receive the Eucharist or anything at the moment because Im not baptised or confirmed. i plan on going through RCIA when i leave home in a few months time for university.

No they are “basically Catholic” except in fact. In other words, they are not Catholic because they are not in union with Rome.

When you are baptized into a church or ecclesial community you are both baptized into the Body of Christ and as a member of that ecclesial community.

I’m not sure why you wish to be baptized into a non-Catholic community when you plan to start RCIA. I think you should talk to the Catholic pastor or RCIA director locally.

You aren’t baptized, and no it wouldn’t be a “sin” but it is confusing, and you would still need to go to RCIA to become a Catholic. So I’m not understanding why you would approach the Anglo Catholic church for baptism.
You’d have to take instruction there too, so it’s not making sense to me.
