Getting family to TLM

I would love to take DH to the TLM in Pittsburgh with me, but he is less than enthusiastic (he is agnostic, but raised So. Baptist) but attends a local NO with me.

My parents have observed my changing religious veiws, and I think they are a bit scared. I mentioned going to the PItt TLM when I was visiting, and my dad was like “Why???” (he does that with my veil, as well)

Other than going to Mass by myself, since no one else seems to want to, is there anything I can do?

Tell them you’ll treat them to a Pirates game afterwards? 🙂

Why not leave your parents (at least) to worship in the ordinary form? The Pope seems to have some regard for it. :rolleyes: And if your husband WILL go to the ordinary form, but isn’t enthused about the Extraordinary, do you rather think it’s important that he at least goes to one? Wouldn’t that be an excellent opportunity to expose him further to Holy Mother Church?

I dunno… I would just love to take them to one. I think they are beautiful, and I want to share with them what makes me happy.
You are right, I should be happy that he at least GOES. But like my parents, I want to share what brings me joy.
I have always seen Mass as a family event, rather than something to be done on one’s own. But I guess I could attend the TLM on my own…

Just looking on Google maps it looks like it is 1.5 hours away!

There is one in Erie which shouldnt be too far away (30min).

Ah, well, now you’re preaching to the choir. I’m the only Catholic in my family, so it’s almost always a solitary event for me (when I go home).

Maybe you should plan a fun day in the locale of the Mass and include the Mass in the intinerary. You could also ask for it as a birthday gift.
 
I can’t get my family to go to Mass three blocks away at the Cathedral let alone get them up to the Tridentine Mass fifteen minutes away.

My mother (the former RCIA director…) uses the excuse that Vatican II scrapped the Sunday Obligation.
 
Heh, I always go to Mass alone. Only Catholic in my family. It’s really not that bad to go by yourself.

I’d say just ask them to go, saying it’s something that would really mean a lot to you, and then go out afterwards (I’d say treat them to some Primanti’s sandwiches, but I actually don’t like those too much lol). Or you could always try the tactic that got me to go to my first TLM: keep harassing them about it until they give in 😃
 
Definitely go alone, but don’t give up on asking them. Go often, and tell them there’s an open invitation for them to join you. And it wouldn’t hurt to find an outrageously awesome restaurant close by… 😉 just as an incentive…😉 😉

My husband attends with me only if I make a genuine heartfelt plea, and it’s been more than four months since last time he attended. His last venture was on Palm Sunday. He didn’t go on Easter even though he said he would because my mom ended up coming with me on Easter and apparently he felt he was not needed… 🤷 It sure would be nice to have the extra pair of arms to wrangle our toddler some Sundays… He’s not been to a TLM yet, but his first Catholic Mass was a Latin Novus Ordo. I think that’s kinda neat-o.
