Getting my child baptized

The Pastor of this parish needs to be consulted by these parents and this child. We support a large catholic school at our parish. We have many non-catholic children enrolled at our school. One of our fifth graders, who had not been baptised, went to our pastor and requested baptism. He personally prepared her and her non catholic parents and on one beautiful spring morning she was baptised at our parish. He was so happy, he beamed right along with this “little one”. Go to your pastor, speak with him, he will help you I promise. Do what you have to do, and be thankful to our Lord that He has called you to be part of His family, Praise God. You are in my prayers!

Hopefully, the OP will discuss this matter with his pastor and a good resolution come of it. Perhaps all this debate will be made moot.

In any case, I hope allejo proceeds with the baptism if for no other reason than to reduce the tuition for future years. (Although I have to agree with him: the administrivia is frustrating. It seems people have to take a course for just about everything nowadays and, of course, there is a fee for the course. Too bad the church has joined this ridiculous fad.)

Allejo,

I hope things work out for you and your daughter! I’m glad she wants to be baptized. I understand your questions about sending an eight year old to classes designed for adults. It would be best if your child could receive instruction appropriate to her. Perhaps this will happen, though, in the classes. It depends on many factors. Your parish could be a one-size-fits-all type place, just get something done that will check off a box to say “education” was offered, or it could really plan on doing something that suits her. Give them a chance. Please try to share your concerns with the pastor again. Your daughter does need preparation so that she knows what baptism is and can respond with faith. The pastor understands this (hopefully). Her classmates did not need such instruction during those years in Catholic school, notice, because they were already baptized. So I doubt instruction was specifically offered to that effect, but you never know. However, I understand you being concerned about an adult class really helping with this type of instruction for such a young child. Your concerns deserve to be well addressed by your pastor.

Prayers for you and your daughter. :gopray:
