Getting People To Confession

I was just wondering what validity would a confession have if Person A pleaded to Person B to go to confession?

For the sake of this discussion, please assume that Person B is sorry for their sins against God; but if not pleaded with, would not have bothered to confess because they were unaware of the seriousness of the sacrament.

Furthermore, what if it was also promised by Person A to Person B that Person A would “share” in whatever penance was given them? (For example, if Person B was told to say 4 Hail Marys and 4 Our Fathers- and Person A said the penance with Person B.)
 
Sounds to me like person A has made a great act of Charity, by the grace of God, and has helped to soften the heart of his neighbor. There is nothing wrong with this situation, and there is a lot of good!

Just because a person is reluctant to go to Confession doesn’t mean they’re not sorry for their sins!

Even imperfect contrition, remember, is sufficient to procure real absolution for your sins in confession.
 
Maybe person B just needs reassurance to go to confession because they are uncomfortable but understand the importance of the sacrament. I don’t think that person B would go to confession just to please person A (unless they are twelve years old 🙂
 
Both Canon Law and the Catechism encourage frequent reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What happens with frequent reception is a sort of strengthening of the resolve to avoid sin and temptation. One of the problems in the Church today is the seeming reluctance of some Catholics to approach this wonderful sacrament. Regarding penance. If I understood your post correctly, you offered to say part of the penance for your friend. Don’t think that will fly. Penance has to be said by the person confessing. That doesn’t mean you can’t pray for your friend though.

I’m pretty sure the OP just mean that person A intended to say the penance alongside person B. 🙂
