Getting rid of old bibles?

I would like to know what are the Catholic views, perceptions, and rituals in getting rid of an old bible. It just seems so, unappropriate to destroy it or put it in the garbage can.

Muslims get rid of the qur’an by burying it. With Sikhs and the Guru Granth Sahib, it is burned.

What is the protocol for getting rid of old bibles?
