My employment finds me going to mass all over the place. Frequently on the campus I work at. It is not really a parish as it doesn’t exist all year. I have the opportunity to go to a nearby monastery. On the other hand one of my two jobs finds me away from my neighborhood parish. Am I obligated to look for another job and take up parish life or is attendance at Mass no matter where I find it the compelling motive ?

Sincerely,

There’s no need to quit your job to be faithful to a parish. If you attend two parishes, as you have to go to one place for part of the year and another for the rest of the year, then split the difference and support whatever parish you find yourself in when you are living there. Does that help? Or am I misunderstanding your problem?

About going to mass at different parishes a couple of things. First, I’m assuming your problem lies in that not going to a particular parish is not supporting your local Church. In reality the parish you are registerd in is not actually your local church, it is part of the Church you belong to, namely the diocese you were baptized in or are presently registered in. Secondly, don’t quit your day job. There are many ways you can support your Local Church with out weekly attendence at your parish and the more serious obligation is attendence at Mass, where ever you can make it. Being away from your Local Church actually gives you the status of pilgram in the scriptural sense. Originally, a Pilgram was a Christian who was traveling away from their Church, and according to ST. Paul, Christians who lived in that area of the Pilgram’s travel had special obligations to them - so your travels actually makes you a special person.
