Gift ideas for soon-to-be-Catholic wife

I joined the church last year and my AMAZING husband bought a gorgeous canvas painting of Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan river for our living room wall. There is not a day it doesn’t remind me of my journey through RCIA- and the night I joined the church and our youngest son was baptized. Truly wonderful!
 
Oh Oh! Another of my favorite gifts from when I joined the church is a book called “The Art of Catholic Mothering”. My husband’s cousin gave it to me, I read it in a day and love it!
 
I have a question. Should those of us coming into the church buy our sponsor a gift? I was just wondering. Thanks in advance!
 
Maybe the Last Supper painting is a regional thing? We do not have one, I have never seen one in the home of any of our Catholic friends either 🤷

Now OTOH, it is very popular in non-Catholic homes I’ve visited…
 
I love my portable RSV Bible from Ignatius. It’s the perfect size for traveling, the zipper puller is a golden miraculous medal.

For me, the perfect gift would be this Bible, with a finger rosary slipped inside, AND a year subscription to Magnificat (altogether that would probably cost $75).

Of course, I would never stand in the way of any woman receiving jewelry for any reason, so if that’s what your heart tells you to give, then listen to your heart! A miraculous medal would be perfect, or a nice crucifix (not just a cross, but a crucifix). I wear both together (they’re very small, only about the size of a penny).
 
OK, I’m getting her a really nice rosary and a medal.

Which should I get: a Miraculous Medal or her patron saint St. Monica?

How about both? 🙂

But if you have to choose, choose the St. Monica medal, since she can easily get a miraculous medal on her own. 🙂

Yes, we are not allowed to advertise our businesses, here. (Which seems a shame, since it would be nice to be able to buy things from fellow Catholics. But I’m sure the reason is that people would abuse the privilege, and spend all of their time here advertising, instead of participating in discussions.)

Yeah, my post was in regards to denispearls post. He took the time and energy to register just to spam his business. I wouldn’t mind it from someone that actually participates in this community but you can’t have it both ways I’m sure.
 
OK, I’m still indecisive and need more help…I’ve bought her a beautiful rosary and a book titled, “The Catholic Home: Celebrations and Traditions for Holidays, Feast Days, and Every Day”.

Now I want to get her a necklace. I can’t decide between a cross, crucifix, or patron saint medal. What would a new catholic woman prefer?

If she doesn’t have her own crucifix to wear yet, she would probably prefer that. Even better would be to have a crucifix with her Patron Saint medal attached to it. 👍

PS: And blessed by a priest, of course. It would be really nice to get the priest who is working with her in RCIA to bless it for her.
 
I think a lovely crucifix in addition to the two items you’ve already purchased would be lovely.

When I went through RCIA and was confirmed last year, my mother bought me a beautiful picture frame. I put a photo of myself and my sponsor in it. Every time I look at that picture I remember that day with very warm thoughts. So something like that could be a possibility as well.

Diamonds won out! I bought her a beautiful diamond and white gold cross.

I also bought a beautiful rosary from Lisamarierosaries. It is gorgeous and I’ll have the kids give it to her.

I also got her a St. Monica medal and St. Monica prayer card, a book explaining the Mass, a booklet on praying the rosary, a book on the Eucharist, and the Catholic in the Home book
