I surf the Internet quite often. Usually Facebook and YouTube. So naturally I’ve taken part in arguments over a lot of social issues such as: homosexuality characters in children’s cartoons, transgender bathroom policies, abortion, etc. Recently I have become increasingly frustrated with these liberals and SJWs who simply don’t listen to reason no matter how much logic and precedent you try to use against them. Some start to attack with vicious insults towards me as a person and towards my faith. I pray for these individuals, but sometimes I feel like trying to argue with them is futile. I usually end up outnumbered and humiliated so I just want to give up on them. Please pray for me.

Thank you, and God bless.

I am praying for you, and also looking up something from the Beatitudes:
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Also let us pray for those you are arguing with. You may not be able to correct every error by your reason and eloquence, but you can always pray for them. Don’t give up on prayer. All things are possible for God.

Many hide behind the anonymity of the internet, don’t waste your breath arguing with them, logic is not their forte, nor, often, is honesty. If you want discussion, come to a place like CAF.

The computer in the old movie war games got it right…the only way to win the game, is not to play.

It’s important to remember most people aren’t interested in facts or reason. They lack wisdom and compensate it by acting they’re ‘smarter’ but we all know they aren’t really that brilliant. They have the veneer of intelligence but underneath is a void. They substitute thought with mockery. You alone can’t win every battle. The internet isn’t the real world.
These are tough times but bear in mind, Truth will triumph over lies, good will triumph over evil. Not now but in the future. Victory has been secured.
In the short term, sometimes you have to resign to the fact people will have to learn things the hard way. Look at what happened to Moses. What happened to Jesus? All of these changes aren’t sustainable in the long-run, they’ll collapse on their own. You did your best and you should be proud of that.
‘If anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave’ - Matthew 10:14

👍

Some people get their necessary stimulation of their limbic center from arguing. Don’t feed the trolls.

That being said, fight the good fight. Leave the bad fight alone. Jesus already fought the bad fights for us. He wins. 👍

Knowledge, wisdom, and right judgment are gifts of the Holy Spirit. Invoke His aid.

All the posters have offered good advice. As to your future course of action, that is up to you. I wish you well and offer a prayer for your acceptance of the gift of fortitude and wisdom offered by the Holy Spirit.

And, one poster offered you advice based on the above words of the Beatitudes.

I’ll offer you another from the Lord’s mouth Himself. “And if any place does not accept you, shake the dust from your sandals, I assure you Sodom and Gomorrah will fare better than that place on the day of Judgment.”

Our Lord was telling us to try, but you don’t have to succeed, and you can just walk away. It’s that other place’s loss.

Shalom

Thank you everybody. You’ve all made me feel much better about this.👍

It might be best to look at the liberal majority as people who believe inclusiveness is the highest priority. Most other moral considerations are secondary, within reason. Although it may be frustrating to see people not acting in accordance with God’s laws, consider for a moment their priority. If you listen to them, many will tell you that they do not act for God and many do not believe there is any such being. They are not completely correct about not helping God in my opinion. In a fashion, the promotion of inclusiveness is based on the principle of love for neighbor. In many of their efforts, although they overlook the sin of the marginalized group, the greater effort to include them with complete equality promotes love and mutual respect. These two things are essential for society. But will the be damned for their sins?

Imagine, if you will, a society consisting completely of people who obey all of God’s laws in heart, mind, and body, except one 16 year old girl who is a cheerleader with homosexual desires. You are standing upon a high perch looking down upon a parade where the cheerleaders are performing. Because you have an open and gentle heart you can see the face of every girl very clearly as you look at each one in turn. You see deep abiding joy in each, except one. This one feels the pain of one who exists in an alien world. A forced smile does not hide it. Can she be fully included in this society? Can she be happy? Will she ever be with someone to have and to hold? The great desire you may find is to sweep these concerns aside and consider instead God’s desire for her to not sin. A blessing to care enough to consider his dominion but it isn’t a sin to consider and care about this lonely girl’s problem. It is a doosey.

Many liberals, as well as a whole slew of people everywhere, don’t even believe in God, so an argument about considering him sounds like asking them to put the girl’s concerns at a lesser priority than the man in the moon and your his prophet. That is frustrating, indeed, when you are trying to save the world or just one girl and no one will listen.

I grew up on the liberal media of the 80’s. Graduated high school in 91. Love, love, love, love, love. That was the ticket. It is much the same today for the young. The agenda was much the same. Include the blacks, the gays, the freaks, the nerds, the gothic (that was a contraversial thing then), and any group that was prone to bullying. We are all human. Love everyone. I thought it was from God. I still do and when I go to the Catholic Church they say the same thing too. Actually kind of weird in a way that the Catholics and the liberals agree on loving everyone.

It’s actually kind of confusing. Is the difference that the liberals want to love them as sinners but the Catholics want to love them as reformed sinners? Do you love the sinners? I heard God does but some people insinuate it isn’t going to last very long. Soon, and they mean real soon, God is going come back and punish the sinners. So which is it? Does God love them and include them or for how long? There is some confusion on my part about exactly what God is about to do. If I knew that then I could advise you.

There is a large group of people who are not interested in logic, reason or polite discussion and exchange of ideas. They are there on the internet to get their jollys by bullying and intimidating everyone who disagrees with them. We had a very (old) wise and holy priest tell us once that you just can’t argue with some people; it’s better to hear them out, not respond and send them on their way. It’s not really giving up, but more like picking your battles and putting your resources where they will do the most good.
