Glider or Rocking Chair?

Glider because theyā€™re a little more comfortable and move more smoothly. Plus most of them come with a footstool.

I use a glider with a footstool that rocks along with it. It is soooo comfortable. I also like it because I have two children so far, and since the base is stationary, no fingers or toes will get rocked over. You have to be careful to find a glider with covered sides, though. Many have the parts open and fingers can get pinched easily.

I also have an old fashioned (Cracker Barrel style) rocking chair in their bedroom for the late nights when I have to soothe one or the other back to sleep. The creaking seems to do in a heartbeat!

We used a glider because it is much easier for beast feeding. I tried both. The glider is smooth and goes back and forth rather than up and down ( the up and down motion takes your feet off teh ground and makes it harder to brestfeed a tiny newborn) and I had a nursing footstool (angled for the feet) I also used a nursing pillow ( I had a boppy and ā€œmy brest frendā€ ) A rocking chair tends to use more floor space with the big rockers and they also have a tendency to slide around on carpeted floors ( there are probably non-skid things available)

My only concern with the glider was the potential for a child to get their fingers in the glider gears. To prevent this, I made sure to buy a cover which also had a flap that went around the glider mechanism. I still have my glider and in 8 years with three children, they have never had their fingers mashed by it. There is no cover available for long rockers on a traditional rocking chair.

Always used an old fashioned rocking chair. A squeak is a must have. šŸ™‚ The babies love the sound for some reason and it sootheā€™s them to sleep. Then there is the fact of the rocker legā€™s. The older oneā€™s always liked to help rock the baby by standing on the back of it and riding along. It kept them busy and feeling like they were helping.

We also could play games of pretend travel. If a child was on the rocker legā€™s, we could travel the world in our imaginary train. Rocking along, pointing out pretend places of interest. You have not lived until you have been to the Istanbul train station in a rocker train. šŸ˜ƒ

A glider, because it was free.
My grandma gave us one of hers. I was so thankful to have it with both of my kiddos (especially with nursing).

I have a glider, and I love it. Mine has a foot stool, and it also reclines. This is great when I fall asleep in the rocker in the middle of the night!

My SIL has a recliner rocker that is super comfortable, and is small-sized, like a rocking chair.

Glider.

I also had mine given to me. I would have used a rocker too, but the glider was very comfortable.

glider. DH got it with a rocking footstool for $89 at walmart. still works great although a few screws have fallen out so i am always watching it like a hawk

Neitherā€¦ we just curled up in a big comfy chair with a pillow and nursed.

MIL gave my her rocking chair that she rocked my husband inā€¦all sentimental and everythingā€¦I thought I was going to die trying to nurse in it, also wake up the whole house with the creeking noise.

GLIDER - my vote.

Weā€™ve got a glider, but nothing beats snuggling with my kids in our Lazyboy!

I grew up w/ only rocking chairs in the house, and always said thatā€™s what Iā€™d want for rocking my own kids; however, I was given a glider w/ footstool as a gift & find that I much prefer it. When I visit my folks w/ the baby, I miss my glider. I think itā€™s because it feels like it takes less effort to keep it going(?). Not sure, but the footstool is great for tired mommy-legs.

Glider

I had one with my first child, loved it. When I was getting the new room ready for number two, I tried to take the glider from his room and put it in the new baby room. He threw a fit. In as many words and noises he could say, and pointing to the glider rocker, he let me know it had to stay in his room. He could be found asleep in it during his nap time with a book fallen over his lap. So I got a new one for number two. Both chairs are well loved and have survived three moves (military here), one across the ocean.

Another vote for glider here! It is way comfortable - the movement is very smooth and calmingā€¦and itā€™s very easy to nurse inā€¦

I second the Lazyboy (mine rocks also) I have a glider but the wooden arms were too low for me to rest on & nurse comfortably. Or was it just too narrow to prop up all the pillows I needed? I donā€™t recallā€¦ but I know Iā€™ll use the Lazyboy to nurse this time also.

Hey, as I type this my baby is kicking awayā€¦ wonder if he/she knows Iā€™m talking about her/him?? šŸ™‚

After many miles on my glider, it certainly has the soothing ā€œSqueekā€ It had one by the time my first daughter was about 6 months old. I just hope I have another baby to rock in my glider someday!

Iā€™ve used both, and donā€™t own either one. The gliders are way expensive if you get the safe ones, and I found them to be too narrow to position a boppy properly, which was ultra-necessary with my daughter, who is a baby (now todder! Geez, where does the time go) who needs her space, even while nursing. Rockers were nice, but the most comfortable thing I found was a rocking recliner. We no longer have it, so Iā€™m hoping the next baby is more cuddly and easier to nurse in bed.

I agree about the Boppy! I used "my breast friend (it is more narrow along the sides and also fastens in the back to keep the pillow from sliding off your lap. I bought a boppy with my second baby to use while in bed or on the couch. I used both for different reasons, but My Breast friend is best for a rocking chair or glider. The only bad thing about it is that it might be too narrow for *very *obese people, my sister in law couldnt 'use it comfortably but found a sort of boppy with a strap in the backā€¦ but my friend who was very overweight liked My BF. as much as I did.

For my third baby, I had the rocking chair upstairs in my bedroom so kept ā€œmy breast friendā€ there with the rocker and used my Boppy downstairs to use while I sat on the couch or lazyboy recliner. I know it probaby sounds like alot of money to spend on two pillows, but I truly used both until they were about to fall apart and will hopefully use them again. If you plan to breastfeed for a long time ( all three of mine weaned at 14 mos) then it might be worth it, especially if you hope to have more children!

I was able to find my glider on sale. It was a $400 glider on sale for $150, with the pad and all, very durable, I am keeping it!
