It seems there a couple of different versions of the English translations of the Gloria Patri.

  1. *]Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
*]Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
*]Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
*]Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Which one should I use for consistency sake going forward and teaching my children?

  1. Use either of these two…the second is certainly used by the Church in the Liturgy of the Hours.

The first is used in the Compendium of the Catechism

My suggestion: for use either privately or at home, teach the version that you prefer and are most comfortable with. For use publicly (i.e., in church), teach the version that is in current use, since the children will eventually learn it anyway. Better that they know it from you than from a CCD (or whatever it’s called these days) teacher.

I use #2 when I’m praying the LOTH and #1 the rest of the time as it seems to be what everyone else around here uses.

As for what to teach the kids, I would go with which ever seems to be the most common in your area.

I’d use #1 for everything but Liturgy of the Hours. For the LOTH, you should use #2.

#2 is the official Liturgy of the Hours version. I also use it for everything else, especially with the Introit and Communion antiphons.

I use #4 most of the time, including the Dominican Little Office which I found on the internet.
My local NO priest uses #1 and #2 for the LOTH.
