Hello All,

How do I know if I am committing the sin of gluttony?

I do beleive I have a tendency to overeat and overindulge my palette.

But when is it committing a sin?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

God bless you all! 👍

It often depends on the food choices you make. Eating natural food like fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, meat, fish, legumes, eggs, whole grains etc are extremely nutrient dense. If you mainly eat these foods your body gets all the nutrients it needs and you don’t tend to over-eat. If you mainly eat processed food(or convenience food) you’re eating the same amounts of food but your body isn’t getting the same amount of nutrients. On the long run you will get more and more hungry from the lack of nutrients and start over-eating. Some people argue that healthy food is more expensive. First of all that is not necessarily true and second of all, if you eat less food by eating healthy, it is actually cheaper.

I personally think if people don’t care at all about the quality of their foods and constantly over-eat, they’re damaging their health because they prefer the pleasure of food and eating rather than eating to stay healthy. In that case I would say it is the sin of gluttony.
