I’m becoming a bit embroiled in a Gnosis argument and need to ask for your assistance people!
I am aware that there are a number of ‘Gospels’ that were not included in the Canon. We call these texts ‘Gnostic’ as I understand it.
I also know we use lots of texts that are not included in the Bible, writings of the Church Fathers etc.
What’s the difference between Gnostic texts and non-canonical texts?
What makes a text ‘Gnostic’? When we quote documents like ‘The Protoevangelium of James’ what gives it more validity than say, the Gospel of Thomas?
Students of Gnosis would level the accusation that the other ‘Gnostic texts’ contain truths filtered out by the Church, my initial defense would be that they contain accounts that conflict each other whereas the Canonical Gospels corroborate each other.
Look forward to your replies!
Mark.
