Do you go to mass while away on business trips? I like to go to mass in diffrent places. I’m from the south and there’s not alot of choices like there is in other places.

I also love to experience Mass in different places, and I always research daily Mass options when traveling, the Internet makes it surprisingly easy. Many downtown hotels are within walking distance of a church; in Peoria, Illinois, the famous Pere Marquette Hotel is right next door to Sacred Heart Church, with daily Mass at 7 AM, 8 AM and noon.

My occupation often pulls me away from home on weekends and I have to find a place to go to Mass on Sunday.
**I DREAD IT!!! ** Mostly because my home parish is outstanding - and there are so many weird things going on out there. You never know what kind of junk you are stumbling in to.

I like to try to turn these weekend business trips intor a chance for religious tourism. I go to www.masstimes.org and look at the choices for masses in the area. If there is a basilica or shrine in the area, I try to make that work my schedule. Sometimes I find myself in a “progressive parish”, normally in the suburbs, whch is disturbing since the area I live in (Owensboro, KY discese) is pretty conservative and by-the-book. But when i am able to find a special shrine or basilica, it is exceptionally rewarding. This year, I have been to masses in the proto-basilica in Baltimore, the Shrine of the Little Flower in San Antonio, and have been to several of the old missions in California. Mass is always (infinitely) rewarding, but seeking out special churches in the areas I have to travel to makes it especially rewarding.

Too true! I went to Sunday Mass in Jersey City a couple weeks ago, and was appalled. The priest started out his sermon talking about how he was happy to see a new guy at daily Mass one day. He said the young man approached him after Mass and he thought he might be introducing himself, but he instead “critiqued his homily.” He said the young man criticized how the priest always spoke in general terms about everything, and never taught about what the Church teaches on life issues. Most of the Sunday Mass homily was complaining about that guy and how it’s not his place to tell us how to vote. Then he talked about the readings, which were about discipline. He said that discipline was about having Jesus in our hearts, or some other such weak and generalized thing. It’s no wonder the church was mostly empty!

After the homily was the collection, where they had everyone file up to the front as they do to receive communion, and put their money in a big basket in front of the priest. Anyone not contributing of course sticks out like a sore thumb.

During the Liturgy of the Eucharist, he kept adding words, like "through the power of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and our minds", and “for us men and women and our salvation.” It’s like he wanted to be PC or something. Very disconcerting.

I am blessed to belong to a wonderful parish that is faithful to the teachings of the church. One of our best priests unfortunately was just transfered. He used to talk about abortion, birth control, you name it. He was never afraid to teach instead of just saying the same old stuff. Thank God for Father Scalia!

My husband used to travel extensively around the world for his job and he was usually able to locate a church somewhere near his hotel to attend Mass. This was especially true when he was traveling to Europe. The one place that he had difficulty finding a church was in Japan. He was staying in Tokyo and he found that the center of Catholicism in Japan was in Kyoto. One interesting thing he saw while there was God’s sandals, about the size of a minivan. I guess God has a hard time finding shoes ;).
