I had been participating on a Hindu forum inquiring about how they viewed Mother Theresa. Most of the comments I received were quite negative towards her and for the most part I was getting questions about my own Christan faith and (in their view) it’s illegitimacy. Ironically, my responding to their inquiries got me banned from their forum due to their perception that I was evangelizing them. There is much animosity towards Christians among Hindus (at least those who participate on that forum anyway). I would like to understand it moreso if I could from their perspective, however unfortunately, they banned me so the inquiry could not continue. This leads me to asking for the perspective from the Catholic viewpoint. I am hopeful there is someone on these forums who is knowledgeable in such things. Here is what I have found on persecutions of Hindus by Catholics. Maybe this episode can help shed light into the animosity Hindus have towards Christians:

That should mean nothing to Hindus as it was used on CATHOLICS. Plus, like the Spanish inquisition, was run by the government, not the Church.

and where is the love on that forum by banning you for no reason??

Perhaps it’s incentive for the Hindu NOT to convert in the first place?

I admit that it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I was responding to others inquiries of me. The post that got me banned was an inquiry by a Hindu as to why it says in the Bible that Jesus came ONLY for the Israelites. I responded as to why it says that. After I posted the comment, several people complained that I was spamming the Hindu board and trying to convert them to Christianity. This has led me on a journey as to why Hindus feel that Christians are trying to convert them all the time and why they perceive this as a horrible thing. I came across the Goa Inquisition and thought I’d explore it from that angle.

Not all, or even most, Hindus are as negatively disposed towards Christianity as some might be on various online fora. Gandhi, for instance, admired Jesus very much. But, India was colonized by various European powers, who most often denigrated Hinduism, and even tried to convert all of India to Christianity. So you can certainly understand some online Hindus who may be extremely sensitive to any attempt (however benign) by Christians to talk about Christianity on a Hindu forum.

I kind of had the same problem once in real life. I have a hindu friend who was once explaining to me hindu beliefs. I was listening patiently and then starting to explain Christian beliefs. It didn’t take him long to go talk to someone else. 🤷
