I know that confirmation is the step in which one openly confesses faith in Christ and his Church, independently of parents making decisions for you, like at Baptism. However, what I’m confused about is the “laying of the hands.” From what I have heard, this step gives one the Holy Spirit? What? In my entire life of Protestantism, the Holy Spirit has not been with me thus far? Doesn’t St. Peter say, “Be baptized and you will receive the Holy Spirit?”
I’m really excited about my conversion, but Confirmation is discouraging if the above is true.
