I thought I would share another of the poems I have written.

God Heal America

(to the music of
Irving Berlin’s
‘God Bless America’)

God heal America. Land that I love.
Reach inside her, and heal her
From great sin, with the life from above,
From the sinning, to now caring,
For all peoples, as they roam
God heal America, My home sweet home.
God heal America, My home sweet home.

God heal America. People I love.
Stand with them, and guide them
To the truth with the truth from above.
Not Aborting, but protecting
all the children in the womb.
God heal America, My home sweet home.
God heal America. My home sweet home.

God heal America. Home that I love.
Reach inside her, and heal her
From the blight with the light from above,
From a selfish, culture of death
To a lifestyle, based on love,
God heal America, My home sweet home.
God heal America, My home sweet home.

You have an interesting take on Irving Berlin’s song, however, I have to admit that I like the original better because it is less judgmental and more hopeful–not that pointing out America’s sins is a bad thing to do, but I prefer to pray hopefully instead of pessimistically. At least, that’s how I read your lyrics. Here is the original verse and chorus of God Bless America:

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Thanks for sharing. I love your version. I did not find it pessimistic - I actually found it hopeful and practical. We have problems - we need healing. No beating around the bush.

You are welcome. It is not pessimistic. It is a prayer asking God to heal us. It acknowledges the truth of the current culture and turns it over to God to help heal the nation.
