God should Make Us Happy

My two favorite saints are Mary of Egypt and Pelagia the Penitent. I guess what I like about them is their drastic change of lifestyle. I liked that they did everything wholeheartedly. It may be an issue of pride, I HATE BEING TOLD TO DO ANYTHING. It may be pride, or my upbringing or a combination of both. I have all-or-nothing mindset which can be curse. I like feel their repentance felt like a choice. I DO NOT LIKE DOING THINGS OUT OF FEAR OR INSECURITY.I guess I should be scared of hell. That should not be the only reason to avoid wrongdoing. The world is a scary place as it is. They choose to live inappropriately for years, then they chose turn to their life around for God. I do not see the point in being a grumpy Christian. I ultimately DO NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW THOSE RULES. If I choose to do, I SHOULD AT LEAST BE HAPPY DOING THEM. I am not saying you should only do what makes you happy. Ultimately religion is not like work, it should not be treated like a chore. Sure there is a lot of talk about sin, persecution, suffering, but if God did not promise us something greater than our earthly pleasures, why repent? My guess it ultimately our sins do not truly leaves us happy.
My post may not be clear. Every now and then, I think why am I doing this to myself? I do not have to follow God if I do not want to. As much I HATE THE RULES, RESPONSIBILITY, HAVING TO FACE MY OWN HUMAN SHORTCOMINGS & THAT EVERY LITTLE THING IS CONSIDERED A SIN, I try my best to abide - I actually like going to church, I want to find freedom, happiness and I ultimately want to find the truth.
 
Stepping out of “self” is hard.
But it’s the only way to really see the world as it is, being grateful for each day, and being able to clearly see our blessings, strengths, an dyes, faults.

Serve others. Step outside your comfort zone and be the hands and feet of Christ to someone. Be a shoulder to lean on.
Less on me, and more on them, for they are Christ among us.

“A grumpy Christian?” LOL! Well, Christians come in all shades, sizes, intellect, tepidness, flavors, and dispositions. So I guess you are bound to find a grump here and there. Happiness? Well, it is a state of mind that free will and the love of Christ can and will lead one to. Who said that “happiness” was free? Don’t you need to put some effort into anything that is worth having? It is OK to question everything and I hope you find what you are looking for. You need to check your GPS and make sure you are traveling in the right direction. BTW, for most of us it is a life long journey so pack your bags, travel light and wear good walking shoes.
P.S. If you don’t like rules, regulations and just want to do your own thing when and where ever you want… well don’t join a convent, don’t get married, and don’t expect to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Praying that you find real wealth and at least a smggen of happiness and joy or a great bounty of the what you need. From one grump to another!:extrahappy:

God does not owe us ANYTHING including happiness, love, or salvation. He loves us enough to give us His Only Son, Christ Jesus, so that we may know how to be happy, love, and be saved. It’s our choice just as it was Jesus’ choice to die on the cross for all of us.

My wife relayed a thought from a Catholic audio file she had listened to: some humans are like a bride who, after the wedding day, is so focused on the diamond ring that she forgets the groom or the wedding vow. We can be like that bride if all we remember is “God saves”. Yes He does but He asks us to share in our saving by doing certain things willingly. Are you ready to fulfill your vow to God? :confused:
