Lately, I have been reading the Diary of Saint Faustina and was reading about how when God wants to lead a soul, He removes all exterior things. I feel like God has been doing that towards me for some time now and was wondering if He ever gives it all back. I don’t mind losing material things, though I would like to be able to get everything back at some point. If it is not God’s Will then I will obey, but I would like to have some earthly enjoyment. Thank you.

I think He removes both exterior and interior obstacles when you allow His will to take place in your life. Whether He gives them back or not is up to Him… I am happy that you seem to see obedience as being important, whatever His will.

May I just say you’re extremely fortunate to have God working in your life in such a “visible” way. Does this not give you such great consolation? I’d feel so blessed I can’t imagine feeling like earthly enjoyment was lacking, but perhaps your situation is extreme. Do you have a spiritual director? You don’t have to answer actually these questions, as it’s none of my business; these are for you to think about, I just hope it helps. God bless you!

I think you can interpret removing all exterior things as meaning that nothing comes in the way of God. What is prayer, but a removal of something exterior for the moment? Do not remove what you enjoy. That is silly, and not God’s will. St. Francis de Sales says it is good to have entertainment.

Be moderate, and enjoy.😃

It has been my experience that God gives the things you need to progress in life,
Not the things you want that will help you progress in life,
We ourselves must learn the difference between the two, which can be a tough lesson,

Thank you, I sometimes feel down because I feel like sometimes the earthly things that I enjoy, tv, movies, etc., are being taken away from me. I try to maintain a good attitude but that is hard sometimes. Just earlier today I read that when God puts people through things like this, it is because He has specific purpose for that person; reading this put me on cloud IX. The problem is that being moderate is difficult for me as I suffer with scrupulosity and when I feel that God wants me to do something I go to extreme out of fear of not doing good enough. Hope you all had a great Christmas and thank you.

A few years ago I noticed the same thing in my life. A new position at work opened up which limited my socialization considerably. I began to pray more. Then, I became less interested in watching news and worldly things ( still check headlines, but am not as passionate about many things I cannot control). So, then I started looking on Catholic Answers, going to daily Mass, praying rosary…to fill other TV time, shopping etc… I found myself turning to God in place of earthly things and there’s no turning back! The desire for things of this world don’t seem to attract any more.

God has acting pretty “full range” in different situations.

The book of Job shows how much He can actually take away from someone and not even for doing anything wrong. Luckily Job got to play that role so we don’t have to, right?
