I talked to the mother. Her mind was made up. A whole lotta crap had gone down in her life and she was very angry with God.
So, I pray for the family. It’s all I can do.
Don’t forget the child. Even if parents are angry with God the kid doesn’t have to pay for this. I don’t know in RC but in the east the faith of the child is the godparent’s duty and something to answer for when judged by Christ.
assuming they trust you to be somewhat of a real godparent…
“Bring the kid into town for a few days, I’ll watch him and you can pick him up after church on Sunday.”
The timing might be bad but you get the idea; I would only do that if you are sure that won’t make them angrier.
You can pray for them. You can try to keep in touch with your godchild. Depending on their age maybe you can send them books on the Faith if you don’t think it would be taken badly by them or their parents. You can’t convert their parents, bit you can still pray, keep in contact, and Try to be a good influence
